Parking at stadium's -esp Twickenham!
Posted by: antony d on 09 July 2007
I don't often let the red mist cloud my view off life, but I have to say it's time!
I was one of the 55,000 soles who went to Twickenham last night to see Genesis "turn it on again" (thoughts on sep thread) having spent and hour and half to crawl up the A316 into a car park - very loose term - then to be charged £25 of hard earned into the bargin I was delighted at the end of the evening to see No stewards, No police just another few hundred victims having to wait for around an hour to get out of the car park.
Couple of things struck me how can Twickenham have increased it's seating by 30,000 with NO further provision for car parking, moreover if someone or persons is clearly ripping off the general public for parking (again £25)it is not fair they marshel the exit as well as the entry
God alone only knows how on earth 2012 is going to happen -
TWICKENHM PULL YOUR FINGER OUT!

I understand your frustration. We live just down the A316 from Twickenham but prefer to drive to Staines and get the train to Twickenham. Parking has been a nightmare around there from time immemorial.Twickenham station is no place for the faint-hearted either, on a match or concert day, but I can only suggest to anybody coming to the venue that it is probably the lesser of the two evils.
Other than that, how was the concert?

Pre paid £15 "VIP"(same as normal parking) at Wembley for The Who. Access to the car park from 10:00 AM. The "VIP" car park is very close the stairs of the stadium and close to Empire Pool(oldie alert). Time to get out approx 10 minutes from starting the car to being on the North Circular, came out by IKEA not through Wembley High Street.
It's the second time we have used this system and it works well for us.

I paid £15 for parking at Silverstone yesterday and to be fair it was extremely well marshalled. It didn't stop it taking over an hour just to get out though.
Twickenham is just a bloody nightmare full stop to travel to because even public transport is hardly convenient for the place.
Wembley, despite much criticism, is extremely well served by train with several stations close by.

Is Whitton Station not an option for Twickers?

Any suggestions on parking at the O2? I'm off to see Prince there soon, & the missus isn't too happy travelling on the tube.
Matt.

Use the DLR then.

Chris,
Pretty good - I have seen Genesis 4 times, must say this was not the best one. I happended to be up with the gods in the east stand and the band was covered by a clear roof which distrated from the view. Light show as ever was up there - I think Twickem has issues for accoustics being Oval there was a lot of drum refrub
The can still play though for a bunch of old ones - Phill Collins was full of energy - his drumming is still the best! along with Chester Thomson. Tony Banks happy as ever (not)
As every the real "oldies" got the best cheer - they ended with carpet crawlers - I am not a huge fan of the band following Duke, but they certainly held thier own over the 55k fans

It's been a while since I posted here - moving country'n'all, but a thread started by Antony was too good to miss.
Last night I went to see Muse (fantastically brilliant on stage - and I'm not the greatest fan music-wise) at the Stade Louis II in Monaco.
Oh how easily that rolls off the tongue/keyboard! And the (free) parking was a piece of piss. The open-top drive back along the haut-corniche wrapped up a wonderful evening completely, and it hasn't rained here for over a month. Tee hee.
On the (slight, I admit) downside I was planning to go watch Monaco FC play next season as it's cheap by UK standards, but the stadium is a decidedly nasty seventies monstrosity and the pitch is an athletics track away from the stands which is never great for football I think(although didn't affect a concert).
Must dash - I have a ferry to St Tropez to catch in the morning...
