The Greatest Band on Earth

......., would of course have to be Tenacious D. For those not hip to the "D", they are an
awesome acoustic rock duo who got their start on HBO doing a couple shorts. They toured
last year and the show in Detroit was
amazing; a jam-packed sold-out audience
singing along with every song. And not only
are they touring again starting next month,
but they have a record coming out in two
weeks!!! The sound quality of their HBO shows is the best sound I've ever gotten from a TV
source (Satelite/Numerik/Naim) so I'm excited about the music and sound from the record!!
Check out Tenacious D time.com for more details.

Wow,
I'm blown away! Are there really no "D" fans on this forum? Well when the new record comes out next week, I'm sure that's all going to change!

Ron The Mon,
On the way to the record store to pre-order a copy.

Do you remember a band named "David and David", titled "Boomtown"...when this came out in '86 I thought was the best thing contempory pop at the time. It was excellent songwriting and catchy tunes...no follow up, gone from the face of the earth...I thought they were here for the long haul. I guess this is the measure for a band, longevity. What do you think??

Tenacious D is much in the same vein as Spinal Tap (and I guarantee if you like the Tap, you'll like the D). They are two guys who believe they are the hardest rock band in the world(and they're acoustic!!). They write terrible songs but again believe themselves above Dylan. In order to make the gag work however, the "actors" really are great musicians and singers and songwriters.
When they last toured here, I expected a small turnout to their show(much like when Spinal Tap played here at an even smaller club). Yet the show was sold out and no one was going to the rest rooms between songs!!
As I mentioned above, when the record comes out, you'll be hooked!

just had a review in the Los Angeles Times. "Jack Black and Kyle Gass are full of themselves, which makes them very full indeed."..."intensely deluded dudes with aspirations to heavy-metal majesty, but the chops of soft-rock hacks, the music comedy duo has parlayed that self-delusion into cult stardom in LA clubs... utterly clueless, making ehm a sort of slacker Spinal Tap. 'Here's a song for the ladies,' they say, introducing a tune that encourages occaisional tenderness in lovemaking. of course they state it in the crudest words available, ensuring that any "ladies" will quickly bolt the room."

"Like the glibly cutting record store clerk he played in "High Fideltiy," Black flings his quips like darts and seems to watch them stick with a malicious, infectious glee. And if nothing else they always crack each other up."

(sounds like fun but I'd get bored without an insight or two in the songs, I'll pass)
