Three separate hardware profiles must be accommodated in this release–worth waiting patiently for.

Another update? I will have to lug the Uniti to the dealers again! But I guess it is worth the effort ..... until a new firmware is released!

Hmm - IMO the best thing the updates give you is digital ipod integration and a more stable UPnP setup - the actual n-stream app is a bit of a disappointment at the moment. The ipod sounds great....

Still no news on this I take it?
My dealer is completely in the dark.

This is the reply I received from my dealer, but no timing nor .... :-(

"Currently, there are two different versions of the Uniti in the field running different issues of software. These are:

BC SW 10189 of which we estimate total 2200 units, need a software update, available end of September

BC SW 10198 of which we estimate total 550 units need a board change and software update, to be done in Salisbury FOC

To determine what s/w a Uniti is running then the following procedure is required:

From the Remote Handset:

Press the setup button (the 'spanner' icon)
Using the down arrow button scroll down to 'Factory settings'
Press the OK button - This takes you to 'system status'
Press the OK' button again - This takes you to the 'System Status' list
Scroll down and you will come across BC SW at the bottom of the list.
Press the 'List' button to exit.

From the Front panel:

Press and hold 'list' button.
Using the button 'prev' scroll down to 'Factory settings'
Press 'Stop' button (this is the OK button) - This takes you to 'system status'
Press 'stop' button again - This takes you to the 'System Status' list
Use 'prev' to scroll down and you will come across BC SW at the bottom of the list.
Press and hold 'List' to exit."

It irritates me, that Naim is not more professional on this, thus setting the expectations correct from the beginning, providing a web-page with the information, so all users can read this. I bought my Uniti in May this year, and need both a HW upgrade and SW upgrade. This must be part of the guarantee.

Any other news on this?

Skipper,

I think your dealer has just sent you a copy of a posting from this forum.
Sadly, even this Naim posted post is incorrect.

It seemed counter intuitive that older Uniti's needed a software only fix while newer required a new board. From a follow up on this via my dealer who has checked with Naim, it is actually the other way around. As such, this is (probably, assuming this particular rumour is correct) good news for you as you should just need a software update.
The confirmation also stated that the board change would be chargeable and *not* free of charge.

To my understanding, the new release will contains two set of elements:
- new features
- bug fixes (UPnP, gapless)

Bug fixes should not be chargeable.

If changing the board is chargeable, then it would be correct to offer bug fixing in a firmware that is compatible with the old board.

I just checked with my dealer as he sent me information regarding the software and hardware fixes.

Older Unitis (version 10189) require a software upgrade for the ability to use the n-stream app and gapless wav files and can be done by the dealer - if you want to have the digital ipod connection via the USB then this is a chargeable (£225) board replacement and the box has to go back to Naim

Newer Unitis (version 10198) require a board change by Naim and software upgrade so also have to go back to Naim but this is free (Naim are saying in their info that carriage is to be paid by the owner but dealer is picking up the tab - thanks!).

The latest Unitis manufactured since September are OK but don't have the n-link facility.

Hope this helps,

Ian

Now that the firmware upgrade is available to retailers is there any word on a download for owners who wish to do the upgrade themselves? For the last upgrade I had to send the Uniti off to the US distributer and was without it for 3 weeks or so. Don't really want to do that again so a download available to the technical-types would be most welcome.

Double check your serial number. I have been advised by Naim that Uniti's with s/n after 297008 do not have the nLink socket on the back. Our recently acquired demonstrator (s/n 298578) certainly doesn't.

Sorry Tony ...puerile Brit humour ....I appreciate the lack of n-link which was too expensive anyway. The quality of the direct link is fantastic.

Got it now Big Grin

And you are right - Uniti DAC does the job significantly better than that in the iPod
