Naim Haters, whats their problem?

Posted by: Whizzkid on 18 April 2006

Hi all

Looking at some other forums - I never knew that there were so many haters of the Naim brand. It gets quite vicious a times.

Having just sold my Cd5i and Nait5i of 18months. I now have a CDx,102,180 with the CDx the most recent arrival. I am baffled by the animosity of these people, some who say that they used to be regular contributors to this Forum.

The only time I've seen debates like this are the Linux, Mac, Windows free for all's on computer Forums.

Because being new to HiFi forums i don't know if is this subject has been done to death. But was wondering why a company that makes products that you can or cannot buy with your own free will, create such high stress problems, that people feel the need to vent this stress with such voracity.

It seems such a much more tempered place here (which seems to get their goat as well).Any comments.

By the way I've had the Cdx for about a week now and its starting to sound superb.

A lot of them spend barrels of money for no results.
I knew dealers who hate Naim as well and this only because they can't sell air for solid gold.

I think that people forgot the first meaning of a stereo set up: music.
I've seen a lot of people arguin' about the best gear etc etc
I love Naim and i love music.
I've never made a "watt macho" matter of it and everytime i do see or read about this kind of approach i feel my stomach goin' upside down.

Again I agree with you Gianluigi.

I don't understand why there has to be such polarity in hi-fi. People should just enjoy the music on whatever system best presents it for them and not worry about what everyone else is doing.

Regards

Is the thin line between listening to music and listening to gears.
But i'm not gonna tell them anymore.
On italian forums this become a waste of time.

I'm sure it's the same everywhere!

Basically, some people just love to hate...and probably should be left to stew in their own juice (forum?).

Funnilly enough, when i bought my CDx, the guy that was selling it works at a dealer in Wigan. One night we were just conferring about payment and the like when we got on to the subject of the Naim sound, when he said that over the years that he has been selling HiFi he's come to the exact conclusion that some people listen to the music and others to the HiFi. And after reading some of the posts here and on other forums i'm starting to realize what he means.

But that still does not mean you can viciously criticize people for standing on one side of the line or the other. I bit of understanding is needing here from both camps.

I don't criticize at all dear Whizz!
I simply took and went away.
I did realize that when writing on italian audio forums people did not even replied.
So....no problems.
I listen to music when others listen to .....cables?

Sorry Gianluigi, I meant the last comments as we should not criticize not you personally. I'm not hear to start an argument.

I once spent a week going nuts trying an assortment of cables. It was murder my brain was going they must be better they're expensive. But i couldn't get away from the fact that the sucked the life out of the music. Which is a no-no in my book.

I can honestly say that I have done both. In particular after an upgrade I listen to the equipment, or more particularly for a sign of an 'improvement' in the sound. I usually have to snap myself out of this and get back to listening to the music. This can sometimes extend to only selecting records that I know will sound 'good' on the system. Then I know I've lost it and I'll put on something that is a crap recording but great music. It usually brings me back to what's important.

No problems Whizz!

I did get it.
As i wrote before i can't spend my time on things like cables.
3 reasons: few money to manage very carefully, so little time for music and no dealers around to get cables in my system and test them.
Of course i do believe when you people here tell me that some cables work and work very good.
I do believe it.
But still i really think i must decide between records and pricey cables to fit my gears.
I only made a choice.

The matter is that the closer dealer is about 110 klms from where i live and btw i've never found someone ready to let me bring cables home for tests.
In Italy you have to buy.
