Free Naim CD with Hi-Fi World

Posted by: Guido Fawkes on 03 December 2007

There's a sort of free Naim CD with HiFi World - of course you have to buy the magazine, which has only one interesting article: on Naim label records (even that is unfortunately by David Price rather than one of the better writers); the rest of the magazine is full of peculiar reviews (why does the best TT they have heard run at the wrong speed according to their measured results: surely it's a faulty sample and yet it gets 5 globes?). However, you do get a CD's worth of great music for under £4.

Antonio Forcione - Tears of Joy
Daniel Mulhern - Fallen Angel
John Van Der Veer - 9/11
Fred Simon - Remember The River
Charlie Haden & Antonio Forcione - Anna
Laurence Hobgood - More Than You Know
Held Lampi Project - Voices Across The Ocean
Jason Carter - From The North
Nicolas Meier - Vatan/Homeland
Reuben Hoch - Ballad For Nori
Paul Wertico - Dining By Rail
Laurence Hobgood Trio

The cd's free all right - last time I got a Naim sampler cd with a magazine, I sold mine for over twice the cost of the magazine!

Definitely not my sort of music.

I've had a couple of listens to this cd.
Being all analogue recording onto proper tape is nice.
Some of the music is a bit too twiddly for me, but I quite like the Daniel Mulhern track, & if I was in the right mood, the Haden/Forcione track sounds nice as well. Great playing & all that, not quite my cup 'o'tea, but hey, it gives me a chance to listen to some stuff I may not have otherwise heard.
Matt.

Last time I got a free Naim CD with a mag, it must have been HiFi Choice a year or so ago, what struck was how good the music was!

I will check this one out to.

I've often wondered why Naim don't go into the area of remastering. I'm sure they could do just as good a job as MFSL do and would be great PR.

Audiophile remasters from world renowned hifi company.

I'm sure we could give them a hefty list to get started with!

One of Naim's first releases (CD002) was a remaster of Gary Boyle's excellent album Electric Glide.

It's a shame that so many of the current Naim releases are, putting it kindly, so dull.
