Unsolicited mail/calls/email - STOP THEM (hopefully)

I registered my phone and fax lines for the TPS and FPS services about two years ago and it's worked very well. I've not heard from a double-glazing salesman since

I'd heartily recommend it to others, particularly those with elderly relatives who often feel quite threatened by telemarketing calls. You can do them a favour by registering on their behalf.

It's just a pity that relatively few people are aware the service exists. The cynic in me suspects the marketing industry do little to promote it, for their own reasons.

I and the Wife have registered on the TPS, and the level of rubbish calls dropped 95%!

When one does creep through, simply tell tham that they need to check their database against the TPS listings, and repeated failure to comply will result in a fine of £5000. That seems to shut them up!

I just wish there was a similar scheme to stop email spam which has noticeably increased the last few months.

IIRC, email spam originating in the UK will be illegal from some time in December. As most of it comes from the US, the UK and US have agreed in principle to extradite offenders!
Let's hope this is the beginning of the end for this annoying mail.

Do you know - I've just received my first bit of spam directly attributable to this forum from an outfit called 'MIT Cables', about the delights of RG-6 coaxial interconnects.

The address throbnorth@strapper.co.uk is one I use uniquely for this august site, and apart from appearing in my profile details, it has maybe appeared in perhaps two messages [in a thread about not being able to reply by email to individual postings]. So how did that happen then? Anybody else get the email?

Most anti-spammers advise people to have nothing to do with e-MPS or the DMA who are a pro-Spam advocacy group.

I just got "MIT Cable" Spam - it was detected and directed to a junk folder by my Yahoo!mail account. I reckon this system is rather good as I get very few false positives sent to the junk folder in error.

I'm just interested to know if the crawler that's collecting addresses from here is simply trawling through past posts, or whether it's got into the public profiles area of the site. As I said, I've NEVER used this address anywhere else. Have either of you posted your addresses in a message?

I have not used the address in text form on this forum. The address is packed with a good few "_" and other odd things just to make things a little harder for the address to be guessed. I also use it om PFM & ZeroGain and this is the first time I have had any Hi-Fi related spam.

Which presumably means the address was collected somehow from the public profile area. Unless Naim.... no, that can't be an option, I'm sure.
