Nuno,

You want a CD player not a pair of speakers.

Nuno

I used to run a pair of Castle Chesterfield speakers with my Naim set up.

Castle speakers have a very high wooden veneer finish and this makes them expensive. The sound was ok but not as good as other speakers for the same money.

Steve Toy is correct, source first is the best way to go.....buy yourself the CD5....worry about speakers later on.

How much you've got saved up for the CD5 so far?

Just curious.

I'd promised myself I wouldn't read another thread started by Nuno until he bought his CD5 and was genuinely looking for something else.

However, I noticed that Mick Parry was the latest contributor on the Hi-Fi Corner so I clicked on the link enticed by the prospect of reading some of Mick's wit and wisdom and it was only when I scrolled up did I see who started the thread.

So I second Mick's advice - buy the CD5. I've got one so beleive me Nuno, you won't be disappointed!!!

Nuno, buy that sodding CD5, then buy a pair of Intros or Credos!!!

Or go Linn.

Whatever you do, don't buy Castle. As Mick says, they're musically mediocre.

OK guys I see that Castle is not what I´m looking after. But can I get from a pair of accoustic Energy speakers all that fast sound and pace, rythm ,timing that a CD5/Nait 5 gives?

Nuño,

I can just tell that you are yearning to spend some cash on something. Something that'll make your sistem! sound better. If you want to waste money buy speakers, any kind of speakers, because while you may 'improve' in qualitative terms your speakers you'll notnecessarily gain anything interms of overall system performance. Your B&W 601s will work very well with the Nait 5 with a decent CD player upfront.

You have a few choices for CD players that will jump the performance of your system. The humblest being the Rega planet 2000, which can sound very involving on the front of a nait 5 driven system. It probably lacks the resolution of fine detail and iron grip of a CDX but at 1/5 the price it's good value. You could buy that and be happy. The CD5 is the nobrainer choice, and why not, you can find these from time to time at about £750, what are you waiting for ?

So do you have the money ready to buy a CD player ?

Ok guys
I will take care!BTW Peter I heard a Exposure 2010 and it seems better than a Planet 2000.It has the new Dac 24/96 kHZ technology wich works very well in most new cd players 600£ range

Steve is right. Really - you don't need to be clouding your head with speakers right now.

Just keep counting CD-5 loading drawers as you are going to sleep at night, and sooner or later you'll be in a position to buy one. At that point you will be overcome with delight in rediscovering all of the music in your CD collection, you will 1) wonder why you didn't make sacrifices to get it sooner, and 2) refrain from posting or even thinking of speakers for several months, such will be your enrapturement. After that time, some Intros will be likely be an obvious choice to you - you'll be able to post here "oh gosh, I went out last week and picked up a pair of Intros that were just crying out for a CD5/Nait 5 combo - and I'm absolutely delighted!". We of course will share in your happiness. smile

Good luck - and remember! Keep counting those loading drawers!

For me Music is emotion!I heard cd 5/Nait 5 and I agree that have fantastic synergies. But from a Rega or Exposure source I can have all that emotion that I´m looking for. This is not a engineer sound problem, that some technicians can solve, sorry. I want a sistem that gives me a fast sound, with pace and rythm but with emotion ,too. That´s why I want some information about the best speakers that my Nait can drive.
big grin

Nuno,

You'll get all the emotion you could ever wish for from a CD5/Nait5 combo; that's what Naim is all about. It's not just about big silly grins, but it's about dewy eyes and goosebumps on your arms, and the hairs rising on the back of your neck with Naim equipment set up properly, the right kind of music, and using proper Naim cables, and not those crappy* VDH ones you once heard it with.

I still don't reckon that you've heard the tune played yet...

*Crappy in the context of a Naim system, imho.

Regards,

Steve.

Despite some of the comments above, I've been running Castle Avons with Naim for several years now. Original set up was CDI/102/140, now CD5/112/150 (no correspondence about downgrading please, I knew what I was doing).

Originally demod against Credo, Linn etc; I preferred the Castles. When doing the 5 series swapout I demod the new electronics first with PMC FB1's; awesome. Switched to the Castles at the final demo; result not awesome but perfectly acceptable in the light of the price difference.

Key learning point: find a dealer who will do multiple demos with different gear and use your ears.
Secondary learning point: the 5 series are a steal at the price; I haven't even added a Flatcap yet and I've never been so happy with my music.
