Naim CD swing trays

Posted by: Mike Sae on 11 June 2001

Hi,

Are the swing trays in the CD 3.5 and CDX the same?
If so, is it possible to tighten/adjust the tray action in the CD 3.5 so it feels the same as a CDX?
I find the tray in the CDX has a more solid feel; it take more effort to swing it in and out, whereas the CD 3.5 tray closes if I blow on it (bit of an exaggeration). Sometimes people slam the thing shut too hard, it can't be good for the transport.

Best regards,

Mike

I'm pretty sure that the CDX would have a better drawer mechanism, because it has a better suspension, etc. I don't think you'll get that feel from a 3.5. BTW, I've had both the 3.5 and CDX, and I preferred the CDX too. I'm about to get the CDS2 on Wednesday, and it does the top loading thing. I'll miss the pull-out drawer, as I think it's way cooler than the top loading approach.

I’ve also had both players, as did my best mate. I can only say that the feel depends pretty much on the individual player, and I suppose you can tighten the tray action on either player as much as you like (if you know how). My mate’s CDX tray felt quite ‘heavy’ to begin with but after more than a year it’s become very easy to move.
