Hi guys,
Just got myself a no brainer upgrade - flatcap2 to complete my entry level naim system. cd5/nait5
But alas after fixing up & power up the system within 15min... i was welcome by the unbearable boom.. nothing was touch to the speaker placement....
now my system sound like a sony mini-compo with the bass boast button activated

what went wrong guys??
btw if you were me, which placement of the flatcap2 will you make
1. flatcap2 directly on top of the nait5
2. flatcap2 directly below the nait5
i know it is a compromise placement but i have to bear with it for another 3 month before i move over to my new apartment.
regards
Wayne

How is the 282 different from what you had before? I have a 92 and thinking of doing an upgrade to 282. You say too much energy coming in once you hooked up a HiCap. I like the sound I have but ever interested in more detail tho a friend warned me it might be too much of a good thing. Athough you have a CDS2 and I have the lowly CD5 with a 150 amp.
When I bought the system I heard a Caspian system and thought it too bright. don't want to get my system too harsh with detail or music looses that blur and becomes a detail HI Fi thing.
any comments on this guys?

Wolf,
The 282 replaced the 82 I had previously. My listening room isn't particularly large and has severe bass problems and as a consequence won't support a 'big' Naim system (ie 52, 135s, 500 etc. - I know, I tried) without becoming overwhelmed and congested. My objective seems to be to put together the best system I can without it tipping over into an overblown mess.
The change from 82/180 to 282/200 has given me quite an upgrade in terms of detail, refinement and fluidity yet retain an essentially lean and uncluttered character to the sound. Adding the hicap brought very significant improvements to the dynamics and detail of the system but because of the acoustics of the room it created a disproportianate amount of bass to become evident.
With the hicap still in place I swapped out the CDS2 head unit and attached a CDX2 to the XPS and there it was ... instant synergy. The CDX2 is a really fun player plus all the benefits of the hicap with no downsides. The system lost that congested feeling, breathed freely and really opened up. It rocked !!

sounds good, I want to jump over the 202 and get the 282 in the future. I sit about 8-9 feet from my speakers and I didn't want to get overloaded with lots of crisp detail. Can't do the CDX2 upgrade for quite a while so will have to be happy with my CD5 and FC2 which will also have to run my stageline. Not sure I can afford the HiCap with the 282 but I'll try.
