Transatlantic Sessions BBC 4
Posted by: Geoff P on 29 February 2008
Just watching. Great artists playing and singing, described as follows:
"The best of Nashville, Ireland and Scotland as Paul Brady remembers Louisiana, Karen Matheson astonishes with some Gaelic mouth music and American star Joan Osborne makes her UK television debut"
it is repeated at the ungodly hour of 03.25am Sat morning but maybe just need to set the record timer on your VCR / DVR
Introduced as the first of series of sessions so watch out for more
regards
Geoff

Thanks for that Geoff. I'm sure that I saw this the first time around. More great sessions to come.

If it is last years it features the dobro player from Union Station whose name completely escapes me, and a gorgeous(imo) harp player.

Just watched it today the latter part of the programme where the musicians were doing a piece called 'The Swedish Jig'. What superb musicians, I could see they were clearly enjoying the music, they were very tight, which I felt came not only from practice but also the understanding, feeling or even engagement they had for this particular type of music.

That's the guy.
My understanding is the artists are kind of locked away in this isolated farmhouse/studio and they sort of jam, and film/record the results.

Yep....they apparenly come together practice each song a couple of times and then play it. It is really impressive how together they are esecially considering they don't play with each othr day to day. The first piece was a double fiddle instrumental played fast and in such good unison that you would think they were in each others brains. Sort of woke me up and brought forth a 'wow'
