Remote control weirdness

Posted by: Somesuch on 09 January 2003

I have a "Dual Remote" that behaves a bit oddly. Sometimes, after changing a track on the CD player, the volume buttons won't respond. I have to toggle between "CD" and "Preamp" several times, and maybe whack the remote a couple times to get the volume to change.

THis actually occurs with TWO remotes (each one resides at a different seating position in this room). So is this a known problem with the remote design? Or something wrong with my preamp (it's a 52)? I've put fresh batteries in each remote, and ensured a clean line-of-sight and everything.

Any help greatly appreciated.

This may not be the answer but I have always found that the battery connections are not always the best on remotes......if poss try the remote whilst 'fiddling' with batteries.
Just a thought !

I had something similar with my 52 (and a friend has it really bad with his 82).

The front-panel electronics sometimes get confused by lightning/static. Switch the preamp off for 10 mins.

I suspect the abuse of your remotes is only hastening their demise, not solving the problem!

It could also be an indication that the optical coupler for switching in your preamp is about to take leave. Not a good thing at all.
