ultra-portable notebook PC - recommendations pls

Posted by: j8hn on 14 May 2005

I'll be doing much more travelling and need a PC to take on the road. It needs to be small but still have qwerty kbd, good battery life, reasonable sized sceen [I want to be able to watch dvds in reasonable comfort]. I want to read/send e-mails easily and keep abreast of sites like this one.
Two machines come to mind Samsung's Q30 and Sony Vaio VGNT2XP

Anyone else got any ideas please, am I on the right track choosing a device like this?

I intend to take advantage of cheaper prices and buy in the states {Florida}can anyone recommend a shop/website, I would like to just walk into a shop and just buy it.

Thanks,

j

I vote for the Vaio!

1- The DVD burner/player is integrated (not external like the Samsung)

2- Samsung offer an EXTERNAL (!) DVD player/CD burner, so no DVD burning for you...

3- Vaio have a smaller screen than the Samsung, but also have a better battery autonomy because of this. Vaio weight is 300 grams heavier, but it's mainly because of the integrated DVD burner.

4- Vaio have a larger hard disk and a more powerful processor.

5- Vaio have a lot of software goodies, and i mean it, a lot of good tools!

Bye.

nice 2 m8. Yes onboard cddvdrom is a must. you really pay for this microbility as the things only the equivalent of a £299 PC. I'm very anti Sony too but in this case there DOES seem like no alternative
