Fitting an armageddon

Posted by: Brucie on 15 March 2002

This is hopefully one of the more straight forward questions for Naimists out there.

I have an LP12/Ittock with the Basik supply and want to fit an Armageddon. Is it something I can do myself or does a dealer have to do it?

If I can do it myself, what will I need to fix it up? Just a couple of screwdrivers I hope. I'm fairly competent (!) and can follow intructions but I don't have an electronics degree.

Any help would be appreciated. My nearest dealer here in Durban, South Africa is 2 hours away.... by plane!!

2 hour plane ride?

The safe and wiser course of action is to get the thing fitted by a dealer. You have less chance of hurting yourself that way. It's not a difficult procedure, but if you're not completely secure with soldering, then leave it to him.

In which case - don't forget to take off the counterweight and take advantage of the move by getting him to service the deck at the same time.:)

Regards,
Frank.

So I need to solder the connections?

...about how the Armageddon (and other PSUs) connect to the LP12. It does seem to be a bit of a secret; I've wondered if purchase of an Armageddon involves signing a non-disclosure agreement in blood at midnight in the middle of Salisbury plain (or Sainsbury's car park...).

Of the three commonly available-ish PSUs for the LP12 (Lingo, 'Geddon, Norton), all of them seem to require a board inside the LP12 plinth. The Norton appears to use the same board as the Lingo, or at any rate can share the socket on the back of the plinth. The 'Geddon is possibly hard-wired, but I'm speculating.

Perhaps some militantly free-thinking 'Geddon owner can confirm this? Here's hoping!

Best;

I replaced my Lingo with a gedon a few months ago. Yes, there is a board inside the deck but it must be the simplest bit of green fibreglass youve ever seen!

The four motor wires are screwed into a plastic terminal block and the lead from the geddon plug is pre-soldered to the board by Naim. All you have to do is solder the earth onto the LP12 chassis earth tag.

Its nowhere near as complex as the Valhalla and even the Lingo internal board is more complex. As long as you can solder one joint, then its a doddle to fit. Theres certainlt nothing inside that would necessitate non-disclosure (funny, now that I think about it, that also applies to the Geddon box itself!).

Fitting the 'Geddon is quite straight forward. After enjoying its work, I then got rid of the Trampolin and swapped the feet for those little rubber things that Mana supply. Now its even better.

Good luck and enjoy it. Its a very good upgrade.
