Royd "Eden" vs Kan 1 on a Nait-2

Posted by: Alco on 12 April 2002

Howdy folks,

Today I went to my local Naim dealer.
The positive result of that visit: I got me a mint Nait-2 back! smile big grin yeeha!

I also took my SF's 'Concertino's with me to try there and compare 'em to other speakers.
The SF's were the worst of all that I tried today!
(which was quite dissapointing actually)

I tried a pair of Royd Eden's, a Linn Kan-1,Royd 'Sorcerer' and some Naim IBL's.

In the end I liked the Royd Eden's best, though sometimes the bass was also a little too much for my liking. The Kan's had better bass control but... also sounded more shut-in and less detailed than the Royd's.

Too make a long story short(er) I took my SF's back home. I couldn't make a fair swap.

Well, at least I got me a Nait back. (phew)

I'll probably place some ads for the SF's.
(and the Cyrus ofcourse)

Anaybody else ever tried/compared the Royd Eden's ?? roll eyes

Greetings,
Alco

Alco,

Now you have a nait back it's time to get rid off the SF's. It's time to try some French speakers. You will be surprised by their speed.
Try a Cabasse, Triangle comete or JMReynaud Twin MK2.

The A7 were Royd's budget model. Next in the range was the Coniston R. The Coniston R was probably then replaced by the Sapphire and Topaz.

I believe (although not 100% sure) that the Eden was Royds top-of-the-line standmount, and was superceded by the Sintras (and then the Sourcerers).

The Eden was a very cultist loudspeaker. Although some say they had a very unforgiving (sharp) treble.

...welcome back to the Nait 2 fold.

BTW, did you happen to notice if the Cyrus was dictating your choice of music?

Thanx, Graig!

I can't say the Cyrus really dictated my choice of music. The Cyrus was not as big a mistake as the SF's are. The SF's did choose the music to fit their character. As long as easy listening kinda jazz, classic or acoustic music was on the menu, thing were fine, but otherwise...
eek frown

The Royd Eden can sometimes indeed be a little too unforgiven,to some people's taste. i like it though,it's very, very detailed and the mids are so open and natural. The music had great detail, speed, involvement and it was fun to listen to whatever music was on the menu.

Hi guys,

just called another Naim dealer in my area.
I'm gonna demo a pair of Intro II's this afternoon. On my own Nait-2 and a CDX.

On pictures the look rather large, imho but the positive side is, that the Nait-2 will drive 'em well and they are easy to position.

well, I'll bring out my report, asap big grin

Greetings,
Alco
