New headphones for MP3 Player

Posted by: Gavin B on 10 August 2005

I've just got a new MP3 player - HD5 from Sony.

I find the in-ear thingeys that came with it very uncomfortable - so what should I get instead?
1. Comfortable
2. Cheap
3. Sound quality
4. Doesn't leak too much noise into the train/plane/...

Thanks in advance

Hi Gavin,
I don't know what you mean by cheap but the Sennheiser PX100 (available for £25 on Play.com) are about the cheapest "good" headphones I've heard. I've used them on my bedroom system and they fared quite well. They're pretty comfortable and fold away for travelling. The PX200 at £5 extra are a closed design so will leak less noise.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Steve O.

Grado SR60s are good for 1-3, but may be too loud for close quarters.

I'd second Steve O's advice, but would strongly urge you to go for a pair of PX200s: much better, and won't annoy fellow travellers.

Independent of the advice appearing here (I should have waited, having asked the question) I got a pair of PX200's. The closed design is perfect for travelling - which is when I'd mostly be using these.

Thanks for the tips.
