Shocking news just in (below). Get well soon fella, your Mum too...

West Ham United can confirm that Calum Davenport was being treated in hospital on Saturday afternoon after an incident late on Friday night.

The 26-year-old defender and his mum both suffered stab wounds at home in Bedford. His mum is recovering while Calum underwent surgery this morning and his injuries were described as serious by doctors.

The club's medical team are in contact with hospital staff. The thoughts of everyone at West Ham are with Calum and his family and, due to the ongoing police investigation, no further information will be released at this time.

A little more than 19 years ago, I breathed a sigh of relief when it was abandoned, in 1960.

I wholeheartedly agree that a large proportion of the youth of today need National Service to teach them some respect.
The right of a parent to give a clip round the ear is also part of the problem IMO. I had many a smacked arse as a boy and rarely had the belt taken to me. It hasn't scarred me physically or mentally. I also remember the local bobby on the beat pulling me to one side for riding my pushbike on the footpath. I accepted it and learnt a lesson. I overstepped the mark and got what was coming.
As a result I have never been in trouble with the police, and try to show respect to others. (At least if they deserve it.)
The youth of today seem to be able to do almost anything they like, and appear immune from punishment. I recall a few of my contemporaries as being a little dodgy, but some of these young thugs just seem downright evil. Perhaps my memory is a little rosy but I really don't think it is.
Regards,
Steve.

The worst thugs on the streets of my youth...Teddy Boys most ex-national service lads.
They were civil and trained thugs though......not!
