Happy for the folks who put London forward with all their effort.

Concerned about how will it be funded. More tax rises required?

Mixed feelings - yup.

As timing is of the essence, I mentioned it 4 minutes ago, though I'm glad you're all getting ready to foot the massive PFI bill through your Council taxes, and no doubt Olympic taxes that'll miraculopusly appear for your pleasures, innit.

Fritz Von Enjopy the Euphoria cos I can't see any in Stratford and surrounding area's except for the greedy eyed companys that'll be cashing in from Canary Wharf on the island Cool

There certainly seems to be an amount of Euphoria at winning, and im pleased for those that put all the work in too..

The reaction here was without doubt influenced by the fact that quite a few live in London..

They might not by 2012 though!

So with inflation, by the time 2012 rolls around tickets to the opening ceremony will cost about 10,000 pounds....

Very good Our Deano, though I do hope they drink too much of the old liquid gold, and all have a bloody good punch up, whils't the banned protesters have a civilised meeting at a nearby village hall.

Fritz Von Bush nor Clinton have never had any power to go against Kyoto, just to remind you all before he get's blamed again, poor chap Cool

It'll be haggis, neeps and tatties washed down with Irn-Bru.

Hammers new ground to open in 2012?
Posted on: 06 July 2005 by Berlin Fritz
Let's hope you are right, though I've already heard Wembley won't be used for anything, and I think it'll be the same with Upton Park (unless somebody's going to pay for the privelage ?) ie, You !

Fritz Von Some EU Social funds may go that way, but with the present treasury way of thinking only linked to PFI projects (Which Brussels quite correctly definately will not play ball with, though small local social projects & employment (short-term) may well arise with luck, and good 'honest- unbiased' lobbying by local 'authorities' larf-choke Cool

Did I mention Beck's is going there too ?

I bet Chirac did not want the damn thing: this will bankrupt London and the rest of the country will be paying for years.
Posted on: 06 July 2005 by Berlin Fritz
30 years is the present standard PFI contract my old Son Winker

Fritz Von A quadrillion has only 15 zero's but I don't think we'll go that far, but as usual we will soon hear the first so-called expert estimates from Our Micks 'Consultant' chappies, which will as all other PFI projects have done to date (NAO Figures can be read) will double, treble, and the firms will have the powers that be 'contradiction in terms' by the short & curlies, and that 30 year quote will only begin after 2012 naturally, if there isn't another War by then that is to offset the expendature, hopefully not of course God Willing, innit Big Grin

Bloody Anarchists they're far too organised for my liking Cool

Looks like the tories have found their new leader in Lord Coe. Assuming he isn't cannonized first.

Howard
I think he'd prefer to stay with the Olympic thing for a while yet. He is in the habit of winning after all! If he was to find himself leading the Tories it might well be at around the 2012 mark that they would find themesleves back in power. He'd then have to explain to the poor bloody taxpayers just why their pockets were being so comprehensively picked by his government to meet the inflated costs of the Olympics which he won in 2005. Much better where he is methinks!

Bloody excellent news. Cheered up my day greatly. Gives us something to look forward to for the next 7 years.

The only downside is it gives the nay-saying, doom-merchants another topic to drone on about.

What a term in power, first the dome, then Family Tax Credits, and now the debt to end all debts, the Olympics in 2012 (assuming that May and April in 2012 each will be 26 week months)

The G8 Debt relief mission now has a new meaning for us all now

The state should hand the event over to Coca Cola to run it as a franchised profit activity

I do not envy you mid 30s types, reduced pensions, extra taxes to pay for vanity activites, and in huge school fees for your kids to find

It's good to see the non English being so happy about it too Big Grin

To be honest, whoopy doo. I am sure London will do nicely out of it - but I can't see the relevance or the real benefits for where I live.

There are two Londons.

The City

And London Cool

Indifference bordering on dismay.

Given this country's track record with building things to budget I see a big pile of debt.

Millenium dome anyone?
