202/200 - looking for new bookshelf speakers
Posted by: willip on 26 September 2003
Currently I partner my CD5/FC2/202/200/ Naca 5 with Dyna 1.8Mk 2. Due to room sizing and the common syndrome of guy. Plan to switch to a pair of bookshelf in the near future. Short-listed candidates include: B&W S805, Wilson Benesch ARC, Wilson Audio CUB, Dyna 25th, Focus FS688 (in order of preference).
Any comments or experiences to share?

Hi Willip,
very interesting selection.
The WB Arc, which I personally own and highly recommend to you, isn't really a bookshelf speaker. Although you can use them without their stands (which I never tried), my understanding is that this will limit their capabilities and therefore is not recommendable.
Another interesting - and similarly priced - alternative is the KEF Reference 201.
Concerning the Wilson Audio CUB ... it will clearly be the most efficient one of all you have mentioned (94dB !!) ... but it is quite big and aggressive looking too; just a matter of taste, I guess. I do not remember that anyone in this forum uses them with his/her NAIM equipment. I'm very curious about your auditioning impressions.
Have a nice weekend

Linn Katans will be far cheaper MUCH better and less boring than the ones in your list.
