How to Handle Files in Music Stores - Mac OS X

Posted by: Lemming on 02 March 2010

I quote:
"Important: Files should never be added to or deleted from Music Stores via an alternative computer operating system.
Note: This is because Music Stores contain not only the ripped CD data files but also the associated database and meta-data files. External manipulation of a Music Store will almost certainly result in database or meta-data corruption."

Does that mean that I can't reboot my iMac to Windows and delete files through the Desktop Client?

Are there any limitations and/or particular file handling advise for Mac users?

Thanks

No, you can use the Desktop Client to delete files, as this is done using the server to actively manage its internal database.

Thanks, I may "read" stupid but I still don't understand the limitations. What is it meant by "an alternative computer system"? Could you give me un example of what I should not do? Can I add FLAC files to the Music Store and how?

Do NOT add FLAC files to a Music Store volume; add these to a Network Share instead.

Server manages Music Stores (e.g., CD rips)

User manages Network Shares (general files)
