DVD5/AV2 Connections

Posted by: Duncan Fullerton on 08 October 2008

I've been offered a good deal on a DVD5/AV2/175 to replace my n-Vi. Reading the manuals all seems pretty clear except for one thing: DVD5 multi channel.

The DVD5 I am looking at has this option and the manual seems to indicate four connections between DVD5 and AV2: digital coax, ethernet, 2 x 5-pin DIN/DIN for multi channel.

Do I take it from this that 8 channel stuff can only be decoded in the DVD5 and must be shifted to the AV2 as a decoded analogue signal? I.e. are both coax and analogue cables required to give all options?

Thanks,

Duncan

Ah, got it! I think ...

The 7.1 stuff is to do with "DVD Audio" and has nothing to do with, er, DVD "Audio" as it were.

I do believe you have it resolved but I'll say this anyway - -
The digital coax is for the surround sound (typically from movies) to be decoded in the AV2.
The 2 5-pin DINs are for the DVD5 to send multichannel output to the AV2 and no decoding happens in the AV2.
The ethernet connection is for communications and not sound.
