ps3 or dedicated blu ray player
Posted by: scottyhammer on 26 October 2008
Hi Guys,
I am really torn between buying a ps3 to play the occasional game and to watch blu ray discs OR just buy a dedicated blu ray player as the prices for the latter are becoming cheaper all the time im thinking nearly £300 for the ps3 isnt such a no brainer any more as i could get an x box 360 and a decent blu ray player for around the same price. what would you do ??

Hi;
A few months back I was looking for a blu-ray player to buy. I had been researching players in detail for the last year and comparing them to the PS3. All along I was trying to tell myself not to put a video game console (PS3) in my home theater. But at the end of the day when I put my emotions aside and made a brainy decision I opted for the PS3 and I am very happy with it.
What tipped the scale in favor of the PS3 was:
1- Picture quality identical to dedicated players.
2- It was the only profile 2.0 device available at the time of purchase.
3- The PS3 is future proof with over the net operating system updates.
4- When compared to "current" dedicated players (not discontinued ones) it is the cheaper choice.
Have been watching movies and playing a few games here and there and I am very very very satisfied with the PS3. I can recommend it confidently.
Regards...

Oh BTW, I've got the 80GB version and it is quiet as well as cool running.

On the subject of noise, my Wii has developed a very loud noise (almost like a small generator, but not that loud) with many discs - but not all. Quite annoying.
I am not fit, sadly, even though I have a Wii Fit which I use occasionally. It seems like I may use it much more after today's visit to the doctor. She tells me my cholesterol's gone up and I must lose weight and watch my intake.

The PS3 is undoubtedly a beautiful piece of equipment but in terms of pure Blu Ray performance it has been overtaken by the likes of the Panasonic BD35, which is also cheaper.

Frank,
Nintendo are doing a fast track repair service for free.
Mine started making loud loading noises when i purchased super smash bros brawl(what a game
). It could'nt load dual layer discs, so , i rang them and they sent me a postage stamp and i sent it off.
It returned a week later to the door! Fixed, whisper quiet and works perfect without one penny charged, Hows that for service!
