Where is ROTF when you need a comment about his beloved Ipswich?

Ipswich is not a crap town. Though the football sadly seems to be pro tem. Kinda ironic that the 'great I am' who was shipped-in to get Ipswich up in a season or two has actually got the team lower than Jim Magilton, who was shipped-out to make room for him, ever did... How long will it be beore Keane gets his cards, I wonder...?

RK...great player.....crap manager ! like so many that have gone before.

.....Ok I admit it ....I've still got a bit of a soft spot for the nutty one ....but howay lads isn't it just a wee bit early to write Keane and the tractor boys off after FIVE matches?
One thing I will say about him though is this ..like Daglish (at Blackburn) like Keegan (at NUFC, Fulham & Man City) and also Arry' Redknapp (Pompey / Spurs) he will demand lots and lots of transfer money (which I thought he'd been promised when he agreed to the Ipswich job?) "making do" is/wasn't for any of these guys which means their success as such has to compare unfavourably with the likes of Fergie (who had success with Aberdeen without much funding) not to mention Brian Clough at Forest and Derby.
The downside of appointing these big spenders is all too obvious after their tenures have passed (ask Pompey fans about the financial mess Arry' left them in - although yes he did win a trophy)
Ask Man City Fans about the financial state Keegan left them in (years before the mega rich sheiks got involved)
Keegan walked from Newcastle the last time because of (yes) interference from Denis Wise, but also (and this is always ignored by the ever loyal toon army) because he was informed by Derek Lambias that the sort of money he was demanding was simply ludicrously unaffordable.
If Keane can do something at Ipswich without much dosh then he really will have proved his credentials!

Don't know why RK should expect pots to spend, no other ITFC manager has had it, not even the legendary Sir Bobby.
The things that Ipswich has achieved in the past have largely (not wholly I grant you, but largely) been done on raising home-grown talent through the academy system. These days the academy just seems to be a seed-bed for bigger clubs (Dafoe, Bent(s), etc).
If RK isn't going to get the budget to buy-in, perhaps he can at least secure the money needed to keep the homegrown talent onboard a bit longer???

More to the point than talk about Keano...ROTF is sadly missed on this forum.
Posted on: 11 September 2009 by scottyhammer
wheres he gone ?
Posted on: 11 September 2009 by Chillkram
He has decided to move on, Dave. I miss his subtle and clever humour and encyclopaedic knowledge of music (esp prog and folk and, of course, HMHB). I was looking forward to meeting him at the BBQ.
Very disappointed he has left.

Dave,
There was a bit more to it than that for ROTF.
I blame Roy Kean.
Stu
He can have Jim Magilton back as far as I'm concerned!

That's sad about ROTF I always enjoyed his posts had a wonderful knowledge about music (and Ipswich). To be honest one of my favourite posters :-(

Agreed Diccus, but if my team had Roy Keane as a manager, I would be be keeping my head down. Come home ROFT, you know it makes sense.

Well, another loss. 3-1 against Middlesborough, with even that consolation goal coming as the result of a penalty in the dying moments of stoppage time; plus five bookings for ITFC, four in the first half.
Keane has uttered his 'Crisis? What Crisis?' speech. The one in front of your nose!! It is not a team in control. Spiralling out of, more like.

But I thought the new Chairman (seriously minted apparently ??) had promised Keane the funds to turn the tractor boys into a promotion outfit - wasn't Keane told that when he decided to manage them?...I'm not trying to make excuses for Keane - but why promise money and then not deliver?
Posted on: 14 September 2009 by scottyhammer
I think the recession would have something to do with lack of funds.

3-0. Looks like it could get embarassing, ROTF. Are you sure you don't want Magilton back?!!!
Posted on: 26 September 2009 by Diccus62
Keane is turning into a bit of a disaster, I think you are right about JM

Please, please, please, please: tomorrow if possible or Sir George Burley or my old Grandma (God rest her soul) who'd be 120 - the most embarrassing and worst performance in the history of Ipswich Town football club - we were rubbish from start to finish - there wasn't one highlight in 90 minutes of ......quote:Are you sure you don't want Magilton back?
Apologies to anybody who watched expecting a football match between two committed teams ... one team were committed and the others ought to have been.
It is now official: Keane is the worst manager in the history of the club.
The problems go further, of course ... Marcus Evans
As a tribute to the late great Sir Bobby, we had our old players in the ground: why didn't Keane bring on Beattie and Mills - they'd have been better than the lot he played.
No disrespect to Newcastle, Nolan was superb - every time he got a yard or 20, he punished us. Good move Roy, not to mark him - was it his birthday?
I mean Keane paid money for Carlos Edwards (Sunderland are probably still laughing) and £1.75m for a stupid centre-forward who ..... well I'm speechless.
Nobody from my family goes anymore .... will we return, of course, to say goodbye to Keane - lets hope that is soon or we'll go down.
There .... a nice positive post for a Sunday morning.
