As I sit here bouncing off the walls of the padded-cell in frustration....
....has anyone had problems getting centreless car wheels balanced properly?...

Some European cars have "centreless" alloys, i.e no centre hole...its filled in. There are four wheel nuts holes surrounding this. When you balance them, the balancing machine requires an adapter as you can't just slide the wheel on.
four new tyres were fitted and each time they were balanced, the whole car would vibrate violently at over 50mph. Most places sugested my wheels must be knackered!
After driving around most of Wiltshire, we found a garage that could do it properly, they explained there is a knack to doing them, as if you don't get the jig exaclty aligned, you get misalignment.
Whoever invented this set up should have his head examined...
Sorry, now calmed down...what a waste of a day though.

Micheldever Tyres know how to handle centreless wheels as well as give one of the most compettitive prices.
Occasionally a fitter will by mistake use the wrong adapter plate to mount the wheels on the balancing machine.

Some garages have the facility to balance the wheels while their still on the car using a powered machine (similar to those used to start GP bikes) to get the wheel spinning and a strobe light, simple and easy.

With the greatest of respect the wheel pictured very much does have a centre bit in it.

Ah yes good old Micheldever, just up the road(ish)
mmm..yes, but thats what I was told it was called. I think they mean centreless adapter on centre filled wheels..possibly?

it would appear so, its not mine tho...just sample photo.
Strangely, the annoying judder throughout car/wheel wobble is back....it was not there prior to the tyre change
I have:
a) had wheels balanced several times
b) swapped wheels front to back and also back to front after last balance.
c) checked tyre pressures and the weights are still attached
I am perplexed....its quite annoying cornering and driving on motorways at 70.
Anyone got any other ideas. Have mailed Micheldever to see if they can come up with something.
Could it be the tyres themselves? Pirelli P700-Z's

AV, can you remind us what sort of car you had;
if it is one of these
or one of these
it is probably a design fault in the car.
