NAIT3 warmup times? (and bass boost...)

Posted by: domfjbrown on 22 May 2003

I installed my (new to me) NAIT 3 last night, after picking up the phono boards and NACA5...

When I first powered it up I was quite surprised - there's a hell of a lot more bass than with my old Audiolab 8000A, right out of the box - and I was led to believe the NAIT would sound really cold and hard for the first few days.

Although the treble is a bit over the place on some sources, I am so far very impressed. Vinyl in particular sounds excellent, but my Pioneer PDR609 CDR (it's only a bedroom system!) actually also sounds pretty good - the only part of the system that isn't so hot is minidisc, and I'm convinced this is down to the medium.

This is the first amp I've had that clearly shows the musical differences between sources.

So my main question - how long for full warmup (roughly) and does this warmup entail playing music (since I'm away from the system for the next 5 days Frown )?

HOpefully you will have found right out the box a good detailed sound, the treble might be a bit up front though (even for naim kit)

I usually find this settles after a few hours warm up time.

I don't really subscribe to the 4 weeks period people mention, I think its more ones brain getting used the the sound, however for the poweramp to get on song will take a few hours.

Well, the Kytes have pretty up-front treble anyway, so that doesn't help, but it's not bad at all...

It's strange though - everything is clearer than the Audiolab, but at the same time, kind of less detailed as well - it's strange - very clean and all that - but I like what it's doing so far Smile

If you've installed new A5, it will probably take a lot longer to burn-in than the Nait will - allow 2-3 weeks!

Yep - it's brand new (white) NACA5 - so this should be an interesting journey. Oh, and the rumours seem to be correct - it IS easier to bend than the black NACA5 in my other system - I'm SURE it is!!
