A South American Scientist, from Argentina, after a lengthy study, has
discovered that people with insufficient sexual activity in their lives tend
to read Net forums with their hand still on the mouse.

Don't bother taking it off, it's too late......

Shouldn't there be a comma after Bishop, Fredrik? Winker

Why? If true, I shall have to clothe myself in sack-cloth and cover myself in ashes, for the shame of it!

The Cat was named after the Bishop of Hereford of the time. He was the last Church of England Bishop to die in office, and he was in every way a remarkable man. He Confirmed me as a youngster, though I am not a regular communicant, and I met him on a good few social occasions too. Once I played the bass at the Cloisters in College Hall for the Clerical Harvest Supper, and that was a funny evening. The Dean's wife took a right fancy to me, and I was sent for and introduced! I have a few stories that would get me locked up if I ever told them about her. I knew the Organist, who was a fantastic musician, but who had no side at all, and would happily chat all day if you ran into him. He was her next door niegbour, so I got a few juicy tit-bits...

All from a post about sad net-aholics, unlike you and me dear Nime! Smile

Fredrik

My apologies for my fumbling attempt at humour.

If you're ever short of a few bob there's always the News of the World! Cool

Dear Nime,

I am not humourless - well not entirely! But I am apt to read print a little bit straight! It's a laugh here though, thank heavens!

Could never spoil a confidence. Especially of someone I count as a friend...

Your secrets are safe with us. Winker

Dear Nime,

My secrets are safe here, and my friends', safe with me! As I get older I find that decreasing memory has the great benefit that I forget much that would get me into trouble! As for myself, I say, speak the truth and shame the devil! Let me say that the Dean I am talking of is the notorious Dean Haines, who muffed the effort to sell the Mappa Mundi about twenty odd years ago. The result of this failed money raising attempt, to help to stop the Cathedral falling in (more?) dis-repair is that the late Paul Getty donated millions of pounds, and a nice new Mappa Mundi Museum was built, also containing the Chained Library, which is at least as significant as a Medieval reliquery as the map itself. So something good came of it all. I had a friend who used to live in the Cloisters, and so I was at least a weekly visitor to this ancient and peaceful little back-water of Hereford, to which access was then strictly limited, and now completely impossible I think. But the internal politics of the Dean and Chapter had to be seen at close hand, to be believed! My friend was eventually forced to leave, due to nasty rent rises. He sings in the Choir, and his wife could not stand the stress of dealing with the Chapter, so they left without being forced out, even though that is what the Chapter actually wanted all along... The Christian Church, hey...
