Where does 'lost' music go?
Posted by: Steve2701 on 14 February 2006
Just like socks, music seems to go missing.
Last night I looked everywhere for my copy of In Visible Silence, The Art Of Noise. I knew I hahdn't seen it in a good while, but still looked in the vain hope I could find it, somewhere.
No way, so to Amazon, where it is now only available second hand. The price? £66.00!!!!
I also have a missing copy of the Best of Supertramp, which was nearly new...
Any of you lot seen them anywhere?
Am I the only one that loses his music?

Dear Steve,
I loan things and I forget to whom! Sometimes things never come back, which is too bad, really!

Steve,
This happens to me also. The worst thing is having the cover and nothing inside. What is going on there?
House moves are usually a bad time for things to go astray, I've lost a lot that way, not necessarily nicked, probably just lobbed out accidentally with the boxes.
On a related issue, I often find that I have bought something that I already have, but have simply forgotten. These usually make good gifts for the family!
Losing it big time.
Regards
Nic

People (often family members) borrow/return them, but file them in wrong place etc.

Don't worry Steve.
When i look for a CD or a book i usually can't find it.
But, of course, it is right in front of my nose!

They end up on the same planet as pens, paper clips and 1 of the 10 screws you you took off the washing machine car etc.
I try and make sure I keep up on music collector but still miss place/file some items.
I just put it down to oncoming senility.

Oh great I thought that I was the only one who did this sort of thing. I was looking for my copy of the "Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence" by Riuchi Sakamoto (excuse the spelling) sound track on vinyl and ended up finding that I had two copies of Otis Redding "Dock of the bay" on CD
. I think that as well as the mysterious "sock vortex", there is also a "Music vortex". I also observe that things turn up just after you have managed to track down and purchase a replacement.

I think it may have been Terry Pratchet or Douglas Adams (most likely the latter) that all lost music ends up in the back seat of your car, strangely morphed into that "best of Dire Straits" tape.
It's true!

That will be 'Good Omens' by Terry Pratchet & Neil Gaiman then. Where the devils right hand man on earth ( forgot his name for now) drives a rolls royce with the perfect engine ie.. it goes forever without fuel.
Every piece of music left in the car eventually turns into 'We are the Champions' etc by Queen.
Excellent book.

'Crowley was currently doing 110mph somewhere east of Slogh. Nothing about him looked particularly demonic ~~~
'He was listening to a Best Of Queen Tape, but no conclusion should be drawn from this as all tapes left in any car for more than a fortnight metamorphose into a best of queen tape'
That the one?

So why have I just gone looking for Larry Carlton, only to find two of his missing, along with a Kitaro.. I give up!
