laser, part of transport?

Posted by: ARC on 01 May 2003

I've started to have a small problem with my CDI. When I put a disk on when the player has not been used for a few days I get an Err message. If I remove the disk and gently move the laser a few mm and allow it to return it will read the disk fine when put on. The disk is not slipping at all so it seems that the laser mechanism is sticking a bit.

My question is does a new laser mechanism mean a new transport. I'd like to stick with my top hat if possible due to its reputation of being superior to its replacement.

Yes the laser is a part of the transport.
The sticking of the CDI laser mechanism is a known problem. Use it more often, that's the best you can do. You won't have any problems if you use it every day or so.

Thanks,

Do you know if the replacement (CDM9??) suffers from being sticky as well.
