Phono to BNC adaptors
Posted by: seagull on 09 June 2003
I've just borrowed a 32.5 to play with (thanks Malcolm) and would like to try my LP12 with it.
Problem being, the phono plugs on the end of the leads do not go into the BNC connectors on the pre amp.
I have had a look at the maplins and farnell sites but am confused about which adaptor I should try. (e.g. phono to bnc plug or socket?)
Help appreciated
Please note this is only a temporary arrangement so spending more than a few quid is not an option.

Hi Seagull,
I picked some up from a couple of different local hi-fi shops without too much trouble. All they are are female phono to BNC adaptors (i.e. the phono plug on the cable goes into the back of the adaptor and then you plug into the BNC sockets on the amp).
More than happy to post a set to you as a temporary measure so long as you post them back when you're done.
IIRC they only cost around a fiver anyway.
HTH,
Steve.
PS I only used them as a temporary measure till I could get BNC plugs fitted to the cable so they're not doing anything at the mo.

The ones from Maplin are pretty good. I've never had a single one go wrong.

There are only two available in the Maplins shop (in my experience) BNC to phono and Phono to BNC
You want the latter, they are 1.99 each and are the same naim used to supply.

Incidentally Russ Andrews also do them for around £6.00 each. I believe they are identical to the ones in Maplins. It pays to shop around.

Yes, I noticed the RA ones wer 3 x the other stores prices, but you obviouslt get more music, more treble, and everything is just so right!
Some of is stuff is O.K, others a rip off.
Back to the plot, Maplins in Brighton is the answer. female phono socket to mail bnc. When you have got a stable systen, replace the arm lead plugs with solder bnc plugs, as this gives one less break in the chain.

Hi Seagull
I have a set of Cord leads that I had made up years ago for a Micromega CD player that have Male phono plugs[ 2 into 1 bnc], two separate leads joined at a bnc,but no separate earth lead as per the LP12.I believe that you live in the fair town[city if you wish] of Brighton,If so you can have a loan of them
