A cool moment!

I am sure few of you can probably relate to the moment when your spouce responds or makes a comment on your system.

This morning, I was awaken by the sound of music playing from our living room. I came downstairs and found my hubby ( with two dogs by his side ) grinning ear to ear listening to Beach Boys' 'Pet Sound'. ( one of his favourite album )

We listen together on occasion but very rare since we don't share much of the same music amongst us. Besides he rather plays an instrument. ( he's a drummer ) He found listening as a passive activity.

Totally unsolicited, he actually gave *the first* comments of any kind on my system. Red Face Well, ok, when I got the valves amps, he did say 'cool!'. But that was the extent of it few years back.

'Honey, I think I like this better than what you had. I am hearing stuff that I have not heard before. ' and went on to say 'this is like listening to this album for the first time'. Red Face

It has been said that musicians often listen for different things from audiophiles. I was shocked and pleased that actually he and I are hearing the same thing. It was particularly interesting considering amount of gear that passed through this house in the past, not once he mentioned how much he enjoyed listening to the music.

I thought this was really cool. Smile

Similar experience last week - 36 hours after plugging a new CD player into the music centre I played one of her preferred CDs and I was gratified by some very positive comments about the the number of vocalists and how good it sounds

For several upgrades my wife has commented that she did not notice the effect of the various improvements - so this was a very good reaction

I guess what was interesting is that not so much about validation but perhaps it's about how Naim gear can make the music communicate to people without being aware.

My wife more or less demanded a Hi cap for the CD5. Who was I to argue?

My girlfriend did not let me sell the Nait2 (and to speak with Harry, who was I to argue Big Grin). It now serves well in the kitchen making the salad dance in it's bowl.

Let me guess - she finds it cute, and vastly preferable to the bigger system (in aesthetic terms, if not musical)? I know that story very well. Sensible lass, I should listen to her more often...

Well John, she indeed thinks it's cute but she also thinks it's a waste to sell it because it sounds good and it becomes, or will become a rare item (I provided my sister and brother with a Nait2 as well, pretty soon the whole family will have Naim Wink).
And although she told me she did'nt really hear the difference to my current 62/140 she vastly uses the newer systems power playing Rammstein VERY loud. Something my Nait2 had problems with.
