Sat Nav Holders

Posted by: Lontano on 03 December 2009

My wife was driving up the M40 when her Tom Tom Sat Nav did the usual with the regular suction holder failing and the sat nav falling to the floor whilst driving.

I want to try and solve this regular occurring issue and get a better holder for her, something that works so she can concentrate on her driving.

Any ideas of a reliable method of fixing this thing to the car. It's a Tom Tom Go 930 and she drives a Mini Cooper.

Thanks

Lontano,

I have a TOM TOM Sat nav as well and i have found that making the suction cup a little wet/moist before sticking it to the screen helps it to stay stuck.....When i first started using it the damn thing fell off very often when i needed it to stay in place the most.
Give it a try before thinking of a new holder as im sure they are mostly the same.
good luck - hope this helps, Scotty

Have a look at ebay item no 180436158006

Something like that means you can get away from the suction mount, or at least get away from a suction mount on the screen which goes through such wide temp changes.

Superglue? Roll Eyes

No?

I find the slight moisture thing works OK for my Garmin.

We get many types of fixture left in hire cars, as Scotty says all the sticker types look very similar, quite a few of the vent fixings are almost impossible to remove without serious damage to vent or holder.
I know that is what is required but there should be a mid point of a stable fixture and the ability to remove the fixture.

Easy. Get rid of the Mini and buy a car with a semblance of ride quality!

More seriously....I use the slight moisture technique to good effect on my Tom Tom 910.

This is a sort of bean bag. Doesn't move, even on a sloping dash.

Nothing wrong with a Mini's ride quality, just avoid the Hydrolastic versions. Rubber cones work just fine. Winker

In a word :- Brodit Depending on glove box config :- this is the way to put the main holder in place - then just sort the appropriate holder for the 930. Simple.
Made for the device and the car.
The holder is exactly matched to the device, and can be powered (active) and also fits precisely in the car it is designed for.

Thanks all. We will not be selling the Mini as my wife is head over heels in love with it!

Will try Scotty's suggestion first and then see where we go from there.

For the Garmin SatNav I bought a dashboard mount that has sticky rubber underneath and is flexible and can be shaped to fit snugly on the dashboard. It works well - I have driven over miles of unmade up road and the SatNav did not move. It has transferred between different cars OK and it places the SatNav closer to the driver rather than closer to the windscreen.
About £20

And it does not leave tell tale suction rings on the windscreen (which are said to be telltale signs that there is a SatNav hidden in the car waiting to be stolen).

Another vote for Brodit.

Surely the safest place for the SatNav is on the dash? You don't half see some numpties driving around with the SatNav right in the middle of the windscreen and cables trailing everywhere.

Brodit and matching proclip are definitely the way to go. My Tomtom 720 fell off the windscreen mount several times.

Solid as a rock with Brodit.

Thanks - we are going to have a look at the Brodit. As the sat nav is going to get a fair amount of use, this looks like a possible good solution. I will also check out a bean bag as well.

That's cheating, using a piccie of a left hooker, and mirroring it...

Ah yes, see what you mean. It was borrowed from the right hand drive product on Amazon.
