Bring back the SPG, they'll sort the *******s out!

Some folk called them 'Dirty Bleeders'

I'll never forget a report in "Nationwide" [BBC1's national, early evening news show in the 1970s] in which reporters accompanied a police van [SPG, I think] at work in London.

At one point the officers spotted a black teenager and addressed him with with the words, "Oy, you! Come here!" before demanding that he show them the contents of his holdall.

I was shocked that they could behave like this despite knowing that their actions would be broadcast to the nation - chilling...

So what do you reckon they say today then ?

"Excuse me young Sir for bothering you, but would you be awfully so kind as to allow me to see the contents of your pockets, Oh God, this is soooo embarrassing"

"Yes certainly officer"

"That's most gracious of you, Oooops what have we got here then ? I'm so sorry Sir, but I'm afraid you'll have to accompany us to the station to help us with our enquiries ! Is that OK by you ?"

"Sure Officer, Lead the way "

"Sarge; make this chap comfortable would you, I'm just going to knock him up some sausages, chips amd beans for his trouble,"

"Black Pudding Sir ?"

If the SPG were to be brought back - can you imagine it's nature?

How about:

Special human rights team

Special outreach team

Special (insert appropriate special interests grouping) awareness team

Maybe a Brit version of this Patriot ?

Of course if many more black & ethnic officers were implimented in said 'New Force' they could probably be quite effective, cos as we know Communities defeat Terrorism not the Police as such, innit.

Sorry, I forgot about this thread [not that I actually expected to return to it].

I would hope that nowadays most police would have some training in how to speak to members of the public. Also, I expect they might at least be aware that carrying a holdall [come to think of it, maybe it was a plastic bag] in a built-up area while in possession of black skin is not, in itself, adequate grounds for searching someone.

Unfortunately, the one conversation I had with a policeman in the the last decade [and a bit] didn't give me hope: he casually and calmly told me that his force targeted blacks. I asked how he justified that, and he explained in a matter of fact way, "Well, they do most of the crime."

Not only was he unconcerned that he was telling this to a non-white person but also he seemed utterly unaware that there was anything unjust in targeting blacks.

So what's your incident got to do with today's situation, ask any Irishman in London 'today' (non black) what he/she thinks of your analysis !

Sorry Andy, Maybe I should have put that one in the True Truths thread to prepare one ? Local news just reported on three Turkish brothers (Berlin born) 19-26 who shot their sister dead in cold blood here a few months ago cos they didn't like her Western style of life (so-called honour bullshit). I'm gonna be very interested to see what the beak gives them (Many are terrified of being sent back to Turkey, I wonder why ?), but excellent work on the part of the local cops though, in a difficult 'closed' investigation, innit.

I can't help thinking that this question was addressed to me, although the facst that I haven't provided an analysis and have no idea how the rest of your comment relates to what I said does make me wonder...
