Chemical Brothers help
Posted by: Brucie on 07 June 2006
I've just bought my first CB album - Surrender and quite enjoy it. What about the others? What would people recommend as the next one to buy etc?
Should I go for Exit Planet Dust or something like Come With Us?
Thanks

Personally I prefer Exit Planet Dust - it's a bit less commercial. This was from the time when they changed their name from the Dust Brothers, hence the title. The Dust Brothers stuff tend to be more remixes of other people but it is pretty cool.

I agree. You NEED Exit Planet Dust. It is excellent, maybe still their best.

They are all good.
But I think they are best from oldest (Exit Planet Dust) to newest (Push the Button). However my personal favoutite LP is "Dig your own Hole". Track 11 "The Private Psychedelic Reel" is a classic!

The private psychedelic reel is indeed a brilliant track but I would concur with the other posters that exit planet dust is a must have if you like the chemicals.
I am just remembering the noise they made at Glastonbury in 99 (I think). They were in the dance tent and the bass they were producing felt like it was sucking the air from my lungs - incredible set!

I thought Come With Us was shite TBH. Push The Button was better but not as good as Surrender. I Couldn't get on with Exit Planet Dust when i heard it few years ago. Might give it another go though.

Exit planet dust was definetly their best. I feel they never did anything as good again so far.

Nice one guys...as luck would have it I've already ordered Exit Planet Dust. Perhaps I will stop there after that then.
Thanks for the replies

Please don't stop with Exit Planet Dust. I much preferred Dig Your Own Hole when it came out.
I remember a review describing it as the widescreen version of the Chemical Brothers - I guess this means there's just more of everything - it's an epic album.
You've got to get it even if it's just for the last two minutes of Elektrobank. I suggest anyone who's got this album to play this bit for themselves (loud) - phenomenol!
Block Rockin' Beats, Dig Your Own Hole, Elektrobank, Piku, Setting Sun, and last but not least, The Private Psychedelic Reel are all essential tracks.
Their other albums are pretty good but after Come With Us, I only really love Get Yourself High, which also happens to have a brilliant(?!) martial arts video.
All the best,
Nicholas
