RCA - DIN Cables

Has anyone tried the RCA - DIN cables by Flashback Sales?

They usually advertise their wares on eBay and I was just wondering what they were like compared to say Chord cables.

Flashback sales look to be a reliable supplier I had a cable off them a while back - a mini-jack to DIN to connect a guitar preamp to my 82! - I received what I asked for promptly with no problems. Others have commented favourably.
What I don't know is if anybody has sat down and listened to the cables though. (In case that plants a picture, I don't mean lay the cable on the floor and put your ear against it.)

I'm in the middle of a listening test with Flashback's 1 metre "Performance" (DIN-2xRCA) cable versus my home brewed PBJ 1/2 metre one.

On repeated listening to MO's "Guitars" the Flashback is brighter & noticably more detailed. It has a clearer and deeper bass which actually plays tunes I hadn't heard before with the PBJ. The bass drum is clearly seperated from the bass guitar. I can hear deep bass purring like a big cat.

The Flashback has a rather more forward presentation with much better imagary including greater depth front to back. The lead guitar is slightly in front of the speakers and lots going on further back. There really is a much more happening compared with the PBJ. With new and clearly placed guitars thoughout the rather complex mix on track 2 overlaid with heavy guitar distortion compared with the PBJ. These are almost inaudible via he PBJ. Whereas the Flashback is providing a real instrument with someone strumming real chords. The quality of playing and the instrument's sound are clearly heard. Just like the "lead" guitar at the front is actually "there" and sounds more like a guitar played by a real human being.

Both cables are using the same lockable DIN plug and similar quality gold plated RCA. I am using "mute" on my '72 to disconnect the cables at the CD end and then switching between 'CD' and 'Tape' so both cables remain attached to the '72 without change to the volume setting. I may move the Flashback to the 'CD' socket later on to see if there is any difference. My '180 is feeding my Mission 753F's via 6 metre Cabletalk 3 cables.

The PBJ is better at background music than the Flashback which is an "attention seeker". The Flashback has hardly been used compared with the PBJ so might(?) change over time if burning in is a reality. At the moment it is a bit tiring to have playing too loud while I'm not really listening to the music. More dynamic? It's odd to hear a real drummer "wellying it" for the first time on this CD. I hardly noticed he was there on the PBJ.

Flashback's service was excellent. The cable arrived in three days from the UK after confirmation e-mails of acceptance of order, card payment clearance and finally despatch on the day of ordering online. This is as good as it gets. Smile

I'm thinking of using a 5 metre Flashbac DIN-RCA cable to connect a Sony DVD/SACD player to a 102/180 until I can afford a Naim CD player.

Two questions:

1. How bad will the Sony sound compared to, say, a CD3.5?

2. Will a 5 metre cable degrade the signal significantly? I expect that, given the source, this isn't a big issue.

OK, a bit more information.

The Sony is a DVP-NS705V.

I really am interested in your opinions here so please feel free to reply.
