Just noticed the following band are touring
Arse Full Of Chips
Really, is there any need. Any band names that you find Challenging?

There seems to be a fashion at the moment for using the word "fuck" in band names.
What's the point of such childish and puerile "rebellion"? It's hardly artistically challenging and really quite tedious.

Premiata Forneria Marconi, a band name I always struggled to say without sounding a prat!

It is a beautiful word though Steve, much maligned. I use it frequently regardless of company, but never in front of a c-h-i-l-d obviously.
Einsturzende Neubauten are one that I always struggle with. I've pronounced it the same way since Jesus pulled on a jersey for Jerusalem, but it still raises a titter with teutonic mates.

PFM is easier,David.

Alberto Y Lost Trios Paranoias, of Gobbing on Life fame. Less easy as an acronym.

Isn't there a metal or punk band called 'Pi**ing Razor Blades'? Very nice.
I prefer the other end of band names, my favourites being:
The Attack Hamster
Crispy Ambulance
and although not totally pleasant, I always liked the industrial band name 'Nurse With Wound'.
I also think there is another band with a great name, ROTF I am sure you can remind me, I think you may have possibly mentioned them once or twice.

Sure there was a band called Million Dead Cops which i thought was mildly amusing in my rebellious youth. As an older less rebellious 40 something with a neighbour as a cop and knowing a few more I find it less amusing. Hey ho
Apparently they are known as MDC these days

That's no way to treat an expensive musical instrument.
Throbbing Gristle (great band I admit), but the name just provides bad images.
It would be hard to find a genuinely shocking name these days (Gary Glitter tribute acts aside)...but if you were brazen enough, I'm sure there are numerous religious opportunities namewise, to upset a few.

years ago I saw ads for two bands
Leather Nuns
Gay Bikers on Acid seems the short form would be GBA which I think is an illegal drug from 2 decades ago.

I've always found "The Buggles" rather offensive.

HELLBASTARD ....the best name for a metal band ever (fact!)

I've never found the Buggles offensive, but contrariwise clean clean. when we are, after all, living in the plastic age. When I catch the train like Johnnie on the monorail on my way to Elstree (remember me, I had a part in a B-movie), I, like Kid Dynamo, before me often think it must have been video killed the radio star and not the Proles on Parade. And don't you just love Miss Robot.
I don't see the point of a group having an offensive name as then the concentration is more on the band's moniker than its music; perhaps in many instances this is no bad thing. The Dead Kennedys and Moors Murders were examples of rubbish groups that attracted attention by their name.
Of course, some bands are pretty good, like the aforementioned, Alberto y Lost Trios Paranoias, despite having a challenging name. Whilst Lou Reed bored us silly with the rather laborious dirge called Heroin, Alberto y Lost Trios Paranoias gave us the much more catchy and meaningful Anadin. At their best they surpassed the general status quo and gave us Heads Down No Nonsense Mindless Boogie. Their finest hour was, of course, Italians From Outer Space. Oh well, It Never Rains In El Paso.
Still tying to figure out what band JamieL was referring to that I've mentioned once or twice.

how about these three (not a reflection on the musical content at all):
Dananananakroyd
When People Were Shorter And Lived Near The Water
and possibly the worst I've ever heard...
Nathalie Portman's Shaved Head

Take A Worm For A Walk Week and Anal Beard are difficult to take seriously.
Regarding the 'offensive' aspect of certain names, isn't it just like children learning a new taboo word and shouting it just to be shocking? They'll grow out of it eventually.

I'm sure it is, but then (hopefully) that childish 'immaturity' needs keeping alive, since it sadly dies in most of us over time.

Having fielded a couple of 'challenged' band names I am now pushing the cuckoo of childish immaturity toward the nest of mealy-mouthed moderation's cruel lip - thence to plummet gracelessly into the jaws of snapping outrage.
