All is not Quiet

Posted by: Dave Hartley on 29 December 2001

I always keep my Hi-Fi switched on 24/7.Last night I had to switch the house mains off for 10 minutes ( nothing to do with Hi-Fi)

Prior to loosing the house mains I powered down my Naim system in the correct order. When I switched it back on I noticed a mains hum noise which appeared to be coming from the CD 3.5.

System is....3.5,FC2,92,90.

With the CD switched off I can't hear any noise from the other units.

This noise may have always been there but I have never noticed it before.

Does anyone know if this correct.

You normally get a degree of noise when first powering up, which soon goes in a little 'pop'. Presumably yours is not going?

Did the exact same thing last night - right after I turned the power back on I noticed the PSUs were audibly humming. Just checked again and all is quiet (seems to be normal).

My CD 3.5 hums very loudly indeed. As does everything else, though I only really notice it late at night.

The system has now now been powered back up for about 2 days and it's a lot quieter now. It may be I'd never noticed this before as the equipment has been powered up for months.

I've just been reading an interesting thread about what should be the next upgrade step, which has started me thinking.

What's my next move......?
