Why in england people vote during the week......

This kept my mind busy for days.
Why the hell!
On saturday and sunday people would be less busy and free to go to give their poll.
Or not?

The answer Luigi is FEAR & SUPERSTITION ! If people voted at the weekend (as here for instance) many more people would vote, many more would think about what they are doing, after maybe a little pre-election party with friends the night before to make things more enjoyable.
Today is 05.05.05. as well as being Ascension Day (Public holiday here by the way). Apathy is strange, I only know that if I sent my Son or Daughter to War (to maybe get killed) to instill Democracy somewhere else, I would feel a traitor to myself and them, if I didn't cast my vote here, even as a spoilt paper, which is the whole point of the excercise, and infringes nobody's rights (except maybe to watch tv, or get drunk in the pub ?)
Fritz Von You get what you deserve
P.S. Tommorow is also Tony Blair's 52nd birthday

You think folk would waste their weekend time on something as boring as a general election? There's grass to be cut and Dr Who to be watched for goodness sake.

That is actually the reason. People will take time out from work to vote, but during their free time, when they may be going away, a footie match to go to or have major hangovers, the turnout would be very poor.

Yes but I also read that theoretically the election can be held any day of the week, but is held by convention on a Thursday.
