A thing of beauty

Redgate at Donington Park. One of the most exciting corners on the MotoGP calendar, slightly off camber at the exit and becoming downhill just as everyone has just blasted off the start line. Stunningly exciting. Lovely. A nice photo featuring Loris Cappirossi.

Perhaps not a thing of beauty but a string of beauties (2:52 via youtube SFW).

Interesting. Only one with her eyes closed.
No green lady? An oversight surely.

What is the music?

Omagh?

Or Normandy, 63 years ago; Northern Europe, 1914-18; the Falklands 25 years ago yesterday when >40 Welsh Guardsmen where killed on the Sir Galahad in the process of freeing UK Territory from an occupier.

Maybe the lone ammunition technical officer ( bomb disposal to you ) walking towards a terrorist bomb. Maybe Lance Bombardier Stephen Restorick, shot in the back for being in Northern Ireland.

"Derry" Bloody Sunday? Top tip; if you are an innocent bloke in a crowd and Paratroopers start shooting "for no reason" ( yeah, nice Thompson sub machine gun Mr. McGinnis ) at that crowd, RUN AWAY.

Mike

As a part-time soldier, I can understand why you'd feel supportive of your Army. However, I do wonder if you have a balanced view.

Could you list any instances where you think that the Army has acted cruelly, atrociously or unlawfully?

Deane

I had no idea you where a part-time soldier; I respect and admire your sense of public duty.

I do not think "the Army" has acted in the manner you describe, but I have no doubt that individuals step outside the bounds of legality. To say anything else would be disingenuous.

On the whole, I thinks its fair to say that without Armed Forces, democracy would fail and Western Europe, for example, would be an altogether different place. You'll know enough of the history of Nazism - and for that matter, the very real threat posed by Japans' imperial designs.

Mike, when you say that individuals within the Army have stepped outside the bounds of legality but that the Army itself has not acted in that manner, you are playing with words and evading the question with a bit of a non-answer. Dissembling, in short.

Not in the slightest.

You asked if the Army had acted the Army has acted cruelly, atrociously or unlawfully - I assumed you meant in a War Crimes / Nuremberg manner - my understanding is that the British Army has not acted in such a manner. I have no doubt that individuals within the Army have broken the law, thats why there are Courts Martial.

Ref Keith Potter - I know him vaguely, so?

A few examples include massacres at Amritsar India, Hola Camp Kenya, and Batang Kali Malaya.
