Thanks to Chris Bell: and who says Allaes don't do bass?

First of all- much thanks to Chris Bell for allowing Seattle Naimophiles to enjoy his generous hospitality. In addition to his terrific system, Chris also has a top-notch music collection, as well as a superb listening room.
Although Chris is in between speakers, he had some loaner Allaes set up. Anyone who thinks that these speakers lack bass have not heard Gerry Mulligan meet Ben Webster courtesy of Chris' CDS3-552-500.

As the new proud owner of a pair of Allaes I have to add Allaes have the deepest and cleanest bass I have ever heard (ok I never had a top notch system but the long road lies ahead). The point is, the bass of the Allae depends very much on the recording. If it is in the recording just sit back and enjoy (even with CD5/112/150).
Another point is the clarity and the neutrality. The guitars are coming out of the guitar amp, not from the Allaes. Once you get used to this any box in the same price range seems to add coloration. I just wonder where to go to in the next upgrade (dunno yet but most probably SL2)

Allæs are a wonderfully transparent speaker from top to bottom. Naim really surpassed themselves with this one. Only 2k too - a steal!

Regards,
Steve.

Well, you do need to stand in the right spot, but it's a very good spot!

Sorry, Hock,
no pictures were taken that night. But maybe Chris can post a picture of his system now that his DBLs are back in place. Chris?
