iPad an Naim DAC
Posted by: ft-o8 on 29 May 2010
Today I plugged the new iPad in the Naim Dac ( frontal USB Port) and the iPad say to me:" The iPad can not detect the device."
Is there for it a solution?

only with the camera connection kit do you get a (limited) usb audio out from the ipad.
but even so I dont think the usb ports on the DAC can be used as inputs - only to play back usb memory sticks.

iPods can be plugged straight into the Ndac's usb posts. Newer iPods will give digital output, just like with Wadia and Onkyo. However it seems the iPad's output is limited.

We also tried this last week and found the iPad does not work, whereas iPhone or iPod touch work fine...delivering a digital playback stream.
However, it is completely typical of Apple to shift the goal posts with docking interfaces...

The iPad was never intended to deliver audio through its dock port (at least in its release form/gen)...It has only been with the Camera Connection adapter that it's been discovered an audio feed will be delivered, if in a limited form as already mentioned....
I dare say it will come as a more established feature at some point, but they are probably protecting the iPod sales for now as they see how the Ipad finds its niche in the market....
Steve.
(I loaded up the Naim website on one yesterday and it was a shame to be greeted with a large white space where the main Flash content is, i.e. 1/2 the page! ....There really should be an alternative HTML page, especially for a homepage....Well, really the whole new site should have been HTML5 based if it was forward looking, but that's another discussion...!)

Flash/Adobe and Apple are not playing nicely together I believe(?). So it's us schmucks that will suffer as a result.
Sort it out guys!

Yes, I'm well aware of the reasons why there is no Flash support....It's an argument that only Adobe will loose, ultimately...HTML5 and H.264 being the way forward.
Although it doesn't excuse poor design practice not building a HTML alternative website, even if stripped down - and at the very least, a complete Home/Welcome page !
