Naim HDX + Mac
Posted by: KnockKnock on 27 December 2008
Hello guys (and girls)
I am having a HDX player for test, but I cannot stream music from my Mac (iMac, 20", OSX10.5.6.) to work
Any ideas what I can have missed? The thing mentioned in the manual typing index.html?movie and so on don´t work on Safari or Firefox
Cordially

ok, I think I give up with the HDX and my Mac. Every second time or so, The HDX can see my discs (but not the "new" files from the last week or so). And my Mac forgets that I have chosen (when I click Ctrl I) that it has to be a shared folder. When I make the discs as a Shared Folder, then the HDX takes hours (!) to see the music files. Mostly it just shows up with a "No Data available" message. So thi sseems to be a combination not worth to try.
So I think I better keep streaming my music (with no probs at all - but with a 5 % less sound quality) with my Macs iTunes>SMC Router>Ethernet Cat6 cable> AirportXpress

Its a shame its not worked out for you. I do not know why the mac would not stick the sharing folder. In sharing prefs click on file sharing then your shared folder should be there. If not add it from there and make sure in options the choices are all turned on, and that you have selected your user name and entered your password.
Presumably the HDX would allow you to connect to a volume with a password anyhow.

Yes, in Sharing Prefs both my discs show up. But there was not chekked the Share Files using FTP, only the Share Files using SMB, as you told me before, I guess ;=)
Again I think just the Naim HDX and the Mac aren´t build to work together, I mean now I spend 3 weeks to get this thing to work. With my AirPortXpress it to me 3 (minuttes!!!!)

Well apple is renowend for its ease of use. In my opinion any one building bits with computers in should be aspiring to that ease of use But its no easy.
For one thing apple uses 'bonjour' a technology to help them communicate with each other.
I was at work one day and got a shiny new colour printer. I asked IT for an ethernet cable so I could also connect it to my macbook. They insisted it would not be that simple and to be frank were well pissed when they watched me plug the cable in, see the printer appear in the print box (even with an icon looking just like the printer) and proceed to print.

Weird... and people think a PC/EAC solution is difficult.
