Google Chrome

Posted by: musfed on 02 September 2008

I downloaded Google Chrome this morning. Usually I use Firefox and I am pretty satisfied about that browser. Chrome seems to have a larger screen to view sites and appeares to be pretty fast as well. New competition for IE?

Yeah, maybe its a bit sad but I downloaded it last night and it seems uncluttered. I too use Firefox and am generally happy with it. Of course its competition for IE but I guess maybe more so Firefox. It's nice to play with new toys tho. One note of caution, I use Googles Picasa for my photo's and it doesn't seem to interrface very well at times with Windows and other applications, but i'm not techie so it could be me. In the end is a Browser just a Browser?

Snap, I am a sucker for these things and I have to say it seems to load pages really fast. The built-in search as you are typing the web address seems to work pretty well.

It also must have a flag set to fool sites that are expecting IE as Firefox gets an "Unsupported Browser" warning from my bank and Chrome does not.

I look forward to giving it a good bashing later.

Yes, but don't I remember having to pay for Netscape? I will be giving it a try.
All we need now is an open source OS compatible with Windows and Mr Gates will be living on his savings (not that that should be a hardship).

Fair point, but a little different level of threat to Microsoft when it comes from Google.

Cheers

I'm currently using Safari for Windows, which seems to be more stable than Firefox which kept crashing on me once a day or so!

I meant - is IE something like Netscape?

That is - something no longer used.

I use FireFox and, so far, don't see the controls I have come to expect in the Google offering.

Did you research the comments and the modifications to the EULA that are coming?

Mods now released and correct.

Still think it is the first real threat to IE as it has a real big money, big corporate home.

After playing with it I like the uncluttered big screen thing, the search/address bar and the speed of loading pages.

I tried it and it didn't seem to offer anything over Firefox for me.

Up to now, it has been more stable on my computer than Firefox. And I love the big screens and web pages in tabs. But I would really like to see a tutorial for Chrome. I get the feeling that it can do more than I realise.

aaaaargh I've downloaded G-Chrome and all of my favourites have vanished and I've mistakenly defaulted GC as my browser - how can I get them back? ( bloody quick to open pages, tho. )

Firefox for me too. Having money to throw at a problem does not always make for a better solution. IMHO a lot of Microsoft products are half finished and inconsistent with each other. Maybe this was something from a couple of years back as I've not looked recently. I now use open source when I can.

I think its a bit of an attitude thing; certainly when you have software for home (ie non-professional)use. Nothing wrong with open source.

Damn you all. Downloading Google made me curious and I downloaded .... IE8.

Quite good but I like the Add Ons with FireFox. Just playing with NoScript.

I thought Google were quite polite asking me if I wished it to be my default browser or not ( I said no). Also asked if I wanted to import my bookmarks (I said yes), unlike Apple who try and get me to DL Safari every time i update itunes.

I have no problem with Google Chrome it seems fine, however have gone back to Firefox as it works very well for me.

I think un-installing Chrome has screwed Firefox up.
