6 off side and a disputed penalty?

I just thought I'd check out what the Italians had to say about it so here is an extract from La Gazetta dello Sport. I have used Babel fish to translate it into english so that you can understand it.....

Giallorossi swept up from the United to the Old Trafford: the race in Champions firm League to the quarters. Great Ronaldo Christian (doppietta), the other goals of Carrick (2), Smith, Rooney and Evra. Of De Red the goal for the square of Spalletti the joy of Smith, Fletcher and Rooney. ReutersMANCHESTER (Gb), 10 you open them 2007 - the stage of the dreams becomes an incubus for the Rome. To the Old Trafford the giallorossi come demolished from the Manchester United 7-1, and give the goodbye to the Champions in the crueler way. E' the law of the sport. The square has won more strongly. This evening in evening of grace. Irresistibile. The Rome has been little fortunate in the episodes (accident to Taddei before the way), two goal endured to you to the first two shooting in door, but it cannot recriminare null. English have gained nearly all the comparisons characterize them, Ferguson have gained the duel of the parkes bench with Spalletti. The quarters of end represent however a goal on which all in house giallorossa they would have signed to beginning goblet, to exit against the United is not one shame. Sin but for the blow. That it could and it had to be avoided. But it does not have to make to forget the double quantity comparison with the Lione and the contest about the gone one. And to serve like experience for the future: the psychological embrittlement demonstrated to these levels this evening is a mortal sin them.

45' FROM INCUBUS - Two surprise to I hiss of beginning. In the Rome not there is the announced Taddei, infortunatosi (ginocchio) in the heating, to its place, from vice Perrotta (disqualified) is Vucinic. Ferguson rimodella its creature: Manchester in field with the 4-2-3-1, to image and likeness of the adversaries. Giggs behind the unexpected Smith, wide and "highest" Ronaldo and Rooney. One movement that will be revealed winning. The Scottish technician has had humility to adapt itself to the adversaries, aware of the insidie of the module giallorosso, and rivoltato the disadvantage in an advantage. The Rome deceives in the first minuteren. A dry right of Totti ends hardly wide. But it is the evening of the United. That it goes in advantage with a pearl of Carrick, that marks a inusuale goal for its discreet feet, but not sure noble. The centrocampista collects to the limit a leaking passage of Ronaldo and it transforms it in a deadly gas-bag. It is made hard. Why the public enters still more in game. Why the Rome skids, goes in confusion. And the Manchester, bad one, spread, assault preda (sport) the wound. The doubling arrives in contropiede, like the 1-1 of the gone one. Giggs, a satanasso, worthy captain of the Red Devils, Smith nozzle, Chivu mistakes the closing, the forward marks 2-0. Hour the United is one schiacciasassi. Giggs enjoys an inexplicable freedom and foretells soccer, the accelerations of Ronaldo makes to withhold the breath: roba from Russian mountains. Giggs is increased on the right, on its cross arrives Rooney that to the centroarea, single, it marks 3-0. In 19' the Rome dream already vanished. The giallorossi try to react like in theirs dna, playing to soccer, with tight passages and before, in the spaces. Nothing long launch. But Vucinic behind the tips is a water fish fuor (Spalletti also in crisis to the 4-4-2), and the defense, little protect, goes in boat. A sudden decision of De Red ends wide, a powerful punishment of Totti is rejected from Van der Sar. But the occasions for the heads of household are wasted: a left of Ronaldo to turn on the long pole ends outside of a nothing. A blow from billiards. Then Gifts are providential on incornata of Carrick. And it is gone to the rest on 4-0: the poker the Ronaldo company on the third party assist of Giggs.
The RESUMPTION - music does not change. Rooney goes close endured to the goal. The 5-0 comes found of right from Ronaldo, still assisted from the cross operated by remote control of the Giggs usual. The Rome retort with a sudden decision of Mancini saved on the line of door d Fletcher. But it is still the Manchester to pass. Still with a eurogol of Carrick, to conclusion of a wrapping action. Then it marks also Evra. A red sea storm is pulled down on the Rome. That it has the merit is not blown up the nerves, but little other. The Manchester plays (accomplice a liquified Rome) as we imagine ourselves you make yourself in Paradise, the confidence is to thousands, the blows to effect is wasted. In this pinacoteca of art pallonara there is well the gem to the flight of De Red on traversone of Totti. It is worth the momentary one 6-1. It would have deserved better display window. And the Rome would have deserved a less cruel elimination.

From ours inviato Riccardo Pratesi.

Yeah and Chelsea came through the more difficult tie too. Not bad given only once has an English team even scored there in the past and no other team at all in Champions League this season. Steve MacLaren must be breathing a bit easier now having seen again the difference Joe Cole can make and maybe even Roman can see the benefit of 4-3-3 for us so we can send Ballack on to pastures new in the Summer...

I'm assuming the seven in the title was not referring to the number of people arrested?

Correct, Howard; this picture gives a clue ( and thanks for the excuse... )

I'd like to see them do the same to AC Milan.

Just so the 'Pool can give them a hiding in the final!

Don't fancy a repeat of 2005 then? Chelsea in the semis, Milan in the final?

Yeah ok then - dodgy 1-0 aggregate win over Chelsea; then let Milan get a few in front...

Number six, here we come!

Just what I was thinking - the boy Carrick done well, so why do they want Hargreaves as well?

And Ronaldo's getting a bit good, isn't he? Might even push Harry Kewell for a place in the Liverpool side next season!

As a fanatical Liverpool fan even I have to congratulate MANU on their victory.

I thought the game would be much harder but frankly Roma were so naive and tactically inept they totally played into MANU's hands and deserved everything they got.

I look forward to AC Milan wiping the floor with them in semi's, and the mighty reds tonking Chelsea (again).

AC Milan in the final. My memories of 5 days in Istanbul come flooding back. Air ticket for Athens are already booked. All I need is a match ticket now.

Can't remember any 'tonkings' recently by LFC although I do seem to remember you had a rather humbling experience at Anfield not so long ago...Bias aside, I can't see you winning either semi (bar a Stevie Gerrard wonder goal on Sunday)

JW,

I suppose we will have to see what happens, but with second leg being at home, Chelsea heavily involved in other competitions, and generally not looking at their best, I am quite hopeful that we can repeat the result from 2005.

Time will tell

PS... puzzled by the Stevie G Sunday reference.
