12 king crimson cds to be released in hqcd format card sleeves on the 25th feb in japan, might be an ideal chance to try the new format and compare with standard editions.

It might be... though I'd be very surprised if I could tell much, as it seems that CDs aren't that broken that they need to fix them...
By "standard editions" I take it you mean the 30th anniversary remasters, all of which seem to be a pretty good job (sonically and in terms of packaging).

yes pete the 1999 hdcds editions which are a very good remaster .the new hqcds are probable the same remastering but i recently got a couple of the new blu-spec cd and was suprised how much more detail could be got from the same remaster, so i might try one to compare .
