Subwoofeer Connection in AV Setup

Posted by: Jerryl on 17 October 2010

I'm using a Pioneer Elite Received SC 37 along with 112, 150, Hicap II, Flatcap II and Stageline connected to nSats.

The 112 is connected through the AV Input for my TV listening and I'm using the 112 for analog listening, the 150 is used to amplify my left/right regardless of source. I also have a sub connected to my receiver, but I would also like to use the sub for my analog listening as well.

I wonder if anyone used this type of setup and how you solved the sub connection. The only option I see is to use a line level AV switch that will allow me to connect both sources at the same time, then switch depending on selected source, perhaps I missed an option?

Are there any AV switches recommendations?

Thank you, Jerry

Hi Jerry,

Can your Sub take hi-level (speaker level) inputs as well and allow switching between them ?

It would be helpful to know which subwoofer you have, and what inputs it has.

I run my nSub from my Naim AV2 via the single lead sub output, and also use it with my NAC282/HiCap/250, connected using an appropriate DIN to 2 phono lead into the nSub's stereo line input from the second audio output on the HiCap. Then configure a different "input mode" on the nSub to allow for level differences (saves messing about with levels every time you switch).

I assume that you are using the HiCap to power your preamp, but just in case you are using the FlatCap for this purpose, I have looked at the manual for the flatcap, and it would seem that you can do exactly the same as I do, assuming that your Subwoofer has the appropriate inputs. If not, I would suggest DIN to single phono lead appropriately wired to use both L and R output signals from the Flatcap, and a simple phono switch to enable you to change between the AV sub output and the Naim output.

I am sure Naim support could help you with any details, and there are various companies making appropriate leads.
