valhalla ps question

Posted by: Guido on 17 January 2002

Hi All!

I remember reading in a thread about a late series of valhalla ps being able to play at 45 rpm.
True?
If yes: how are they labeled - how can I track one?
Could my valhalla be tweaked?
Besides the different pulleye - are there other budget solutions to go for 45? A lingo is absolutely out of reach, budget would allow 100 - 150 GBP.
Background: a lot of the ambient / trip hop /electro hop stuff I like is mainly available on 12" 45 rpm vinyl.
Thanks for your input

Answers:

1) False.
2) See 1).
3) No (except for a diode mod if it is an older version).
4) There are alternative aftermarket PS and DC motor options for the LP12 that offer switch selectable 45 rpm operation although they retail for far more than 150 GBP. Try using the search at Vinyl Asylum for more information.

Daveyp,

The Lingo is absolutely superior to the Valhalla in everyway, so there are no worries in that respect.

You may well be worried about mains problems between the Lingo and any other Naim kit. I cannot give a definitive response to that as I have never tried a Lingo in that context. Maybe you can... if not then give the PSU a home demo.
