NAPV 175

I would like to purchase a NAP 150 for my two-channel system (202, 90/3, Spendor 3/5s, Sony DVD). However, I've been wondering about purchasing a NAPV 175 instead, then using the third channel output to power a center channel speaker, especially helpful with DVD playback. I have no desire to get into full surround, rear channels, etc. I have several questions, though.

Must I use a processing unit like the AV2 as part of this setup, or does my 202 give me the capability needed? Can I run only (2) channels of a (3) channel amp with no problem (until I could afford a center channel speaker), or must all (3) channels be in use? Not having done this before, is there any other option to consider?

The 175 can be used as a 2 channel amp. It has 2 Din sockets: one regular 4 pin Din for 2 channels and an other one for the third channel. Your 202 will give you very good results with AV sources, but in 2 channels only. An external processor (as an AV2) is needed for multichannel.

All forum members' advice will be to buy a good CD player instead of upgrading your amp. Then it would be better to buy a NAP200.
As a general rule: optimize your stereo setup before going multichannel.

One additional point worth bearing in mind when partnering the NAV175 with a stereo pre-amp - the NAPV175 cannot supply power to a Naim pre-amp and so you will need to use a dedicated power supply such as a Flatcap, Hi-Cap or Supercap on the pre-amp.
