Desperately seeking new music

Posted by: Mitch_USA on 12 March 2006

I have a fantastic NAIM system, but seem to be playng the same old stuff all the time. I'd love some suggestions on new music. What do I listen mostly to?

Dave Matthews, John Mayer, Bare Naked Ladies, Patty Griffen, James Taylor, Tori Amos, Marc Cohn, Crowded House, Al Jarreau, Annie Lennox, Steely Dan, Paul Simon, Rickie Lee Jones.

All great stuff, but any new artists around with similar talent & styles?

I would avoid Eleanor McEvoy, I just cannot understand what the fuss is about - Yola is just so snoozesome! The only Eva Cassidy albums worth having are Time after Time and Songbird (live at blues alley is also ok); what ever you do, do not buy the album she does with Chuck Brown it is one of the worst pieces of dreck... On a more positive note Ryan Adams is superb, his recent 29 is excellent as is Cold Roses. He does get a lot of stick but I think all his records are interesting but not all are as consistent as they could be. His debut Heartbreaker is perhaps his best. For something different try the Arctic Monkeys (perhaps not to your taste) but another Sheffield native Richard Hawley almost certainly will be; his latest album 'Coles Corner' is really fantastic.

I second Woodface's suggestion about Cole's Corner - it's a great album.
How about veneer by Jose Gonzalez ?
