I have moved this part of a discussion to the padded cell:

this is padded cell talk i know -- i removed norton from all my pc's as it was simply slowing things down to a crawl and crashed my pc every now and then. from your experience, it seems to have missed a security breach anyhow.

right now i am using AVG and Windows Defender only. can continue this discussion elsewhere, but i would be interested to hear some thoughts from people who know on this. there is also the annoying issas.exe, which you can mistake for the genuine lsass.exe. aaaagh, dont these people have nothing better to do, like listen to good music?

I am very disappointed that Nortons has let throught the trojan - as Ken says, why can't the idiots who create these things apply their intellect to something useful and non destructive.

Once I get the trojan removed, would AVG be a better security program to consider?

Whew. I was afraid this topic concerned the failure of a commonly used birth control device for males.

i see that Norton are introducing a new "faster" version of their Security program -- i dint know whether this will be any better.

i also want to know from those in the know how much protection one gets from Microsofts own "Defender". i also believe that this whole ant-virus/anti spy programs is a bit out of hand -- but when you get hit, its definitely not funny and can be very disruptive and worrying.

thanks rob for setting this one up,, hopefully we will get some qualified contributions here.

Fingers crossed on that Ken. I am off on holiday for a fortnight and will check in on the thread when I get back. I will take the PC to be sorted on my return, at which time I will investigate some AVS that actually works. Hopefully we will have had some replies by then.

Cheers

Avast! for free; Eset's NOD32 - in the US it's $40 for 3 PCs - that's what I use and recommend to clients. CA is also pretty good...but CA is such a lousy company.

Check out www.virusbtn.com for comparative tests against viruses in the wild - AVG & Kaspersky failed the last 32-bit XP test.

Get a Mac. (Or Linux.) Or learn how to manage your PC. Then you'll have time to use that other Trojanā„¢.

What a wonderfully helpful and constructive comment. Isn't it great when you have a problem to hear from some smart-arse just how wrongly you have behaved.
The "other Trojan" is presumably the one which fits his head so well.
