Faxing from UK to US
Posted by: TomK on 27 February 2008
I'm having a problem doing this. I get the message "No loop current" on my own fax machine but failed without any error message on another machine. I can fax without a problem to the UK.
Does anybody know anything about this? To be honest it's so long since I've sent a fax I can't remember if I've ever sent one to the US. Are there options I need to set on the fax machine? Or does it suggest there's a problem at the other end?

Sounds like a problem with the line the fax is on - can you phone the US from that line?

Try unplugging everything else on that phone line, it could just be voltage drop due to having too many devices plugged into the line. Otherwise, do you have a multimeter to hand?

After much persuasion the other party checked his fax machine and it was faulty. Thanks for your suggestions anyway.
Cheers.

People still use fax machines!? Wow! I have a nice old telex box sitting here that I could sell you as well!

Sorry, couldn't resist!

Yes I was quite shocked myself. It was, believe it or not, a tracing of my foot for a shoe company in the US who wouldn't take my word for it that I knew which US shoe size I took. I emailed them a jpeg with all the critical dimensions clearly marked but they insisted on a fax, and then their fekking fax machine didn't work! I've never before had to go to such lengths to persuade a business to accept a few hundred dollars from me.
