Is it just because I'm getting older that I get more emotional when kids tell their own stories during the evening, or are the stories they show getting sadder?

I stopped watching it a few years ago when I found out they fund Manchester's Exchange Theatre youth group.
Laudable I'm sure but not my idea of need.
